I cruise around the Bazaar A LOT and have noticed a pattern about about equipment grade, that (to my knowledge) no one has brought up and was wondering if my suspicions were correct, and here is what i came up with... Burden and interference are inversely related: what I mean by that is that average (being the middle ground for weapons) usually has the burden = interference (within a narrow window of margin). - anything lower than average will; have a higher bur. and lesser int.: because the int is transferred to bur.
- anything better than average will; have a lower bur. and higher int.: because the bur is transferred to int.
this also works for staffs and cloth armor (if you imagine the int. as a value that does not ACTUALLY effect the item). The burden will still be affected by the inverse relation of bur. and int., but the int can be thought of as a value that is taken out at the end... I know this doesn't really sound like a question; and I'm sure I'm probably not the ONLY ONE to notice this; but I was trying to have a lead in to my ACTUALLY question: Is it really better have anything better or worse than "average" if you want to be a mage (AND, are using heavy armor)? (mind you I also use cloth armor and I'm aware that it WOULD be better to use superior+ armor)

- You're thinking about it too much. I think it just random, with the tendency that higher grade gears have lower bur/inf.
- You must not judge equipment by grade, you judge it by it stats.
- If you're maging, ditch Heavy immediately.

well, I only have one piece of heavy (if any) on my mage... but I was also wondering if dragon hide is just as worthless as leather?
Edit: Is absorb better than mit?

I repeat...
You judge equipment by their stats.
Who cares if the name of the gear is "Average blah of the suck" ... if it has good stats, use it.
- At your LV, absorb is better.

So I was battling and i got a kind of rare occurrence which made me wonder. I was main handing sword chunks and offhanding dagger and this is what happened:
6 13 The effect Bleeding Wound on Cookie Monster has expired. 6 12 Bleeding Wound hits Cookie Monster for 81 damage. 6 11 You evade the attack from Cookie Monster. 6 10 Blue Slime hits you for 2 crushing damage. 6 9 The effect Bleeding Wound on Mutant Peacock has expired. 6 8 Bleeding Wound hits Mutant Peacock for 81 damage. 6 7 Mutant Peacock hits you for 8 piercing damage. 6 6 Amphibious Sperm Whale hits you for 7 crushing damage. 6 5 Bleeding Wound hits Cookie Monster for 81 damage. 6 4 Cookie Monster hits you for 0 slashing damage. 6 3 You evade the attack from Blue Slime. 6 2 Cookie Monster gains the effect Bleeding Wound. 6 1 You crit Cookie Monster for 338 slashing damage. 5 9 Bleeding Wound hits Mutant Peacock for 81 damage. 5 8 Mutant Peacock hits you for 5 piercing damage. 5 7 You parry the attack from Amphibious Sperm Whale. 5 6 Cookie Monster misses the attack against you. 5 5 Blue Slime hits you for 4 crushing damage. 5 4 Mutant Peacock gains the effect Bleeding Wound. 5 3 Mutant Peacock gains the effect Bleeding Wound. 5 2 Your offhand hits Mutant Peacock for 178 slashing damage. 5 1 You crit Mutant Peacock for 364 slashing damage.
I found it strange because the bleeding wound that processed was from my chunks, yet the effect gained came from both sword chunks and my dagger but since the dagger was offhand and hits second I thought that its effect would override the sword chunks bleed wound. But according to that damage it did not.
I also found it strange that the bleed wound processed multi times because my sword chunks only has a 1 turn bleed wound effect, but here it processed the same amount of times as if it was my daggers bleed wound.
Its like the bleed wound effect did damage of chunks and turns of the dagger. But this is confusing me on whats going on here...

put the dagger in the main-hand, and a rapier in off-hand. Then post the bleeding damage you get. Do the same thing with the chucks. This post has been edited by cmdct: Aug 17 2010, 17:18

Any tips on how to survive long? Mobs at my level on normal hit 1/5 of my hp, i can't even clear the challenges the arena on normal, lost about 2k c already, can only do 3 levels on normal of grindfest when not using magic/items and i consider my set good for my level, meh :3 Life is tough (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)

knowing your equip and your abilities would help... but based on your stats alone i think you should concentrate more on your str since it affects your attack rating the most. after all a good offense is a good defense. concentrate more on end as well since it affects your hp and barrier rating the most. furthermore, do hp tank if you think your hp is still too low. for more info on the character stats, visit the wiki. http://ehwiki.org/wiki/Character_Stats

Why is phase equipment so popular? I've seen a few pieces, but none seemed special... are they just overall at good stats or do they have any special properties?

Phase in general are overestimated, because of rarity. I didn't saw yet "demon-fiend" or "earth-walker" gear without being phase or staffs, so there's your special properties. (Other than no burden) In other hand there are things underestimated like "Heimdall" gear. This post has been edited by cmdct: Aug 17 2010, 23:02

Yeah "earth-walker" is damn rare, actually I haven't seen any cloth with it yet... that's probably what phase is for.

Use to hand ass out with base equipment now I'm getting my own stuffed down my throat on random encounters. I die in a few hits and mine barely do anything. I heard it was the stats somewhere, but I'm not so sure anymore.

END and WIS need to go up. END always need to be at your level or higher. WIS means more MP for casting Cure. And it would be more helpful if we knew what Abilities and equipment you had.

As you read it, I shall weep. Though I note with pride that I got as far as level 17 in one year with no equipment other than what I started with, and some flimsy level one fire magic.
