How does the system work with regards to the monsters being selected for battle?
Majority of them appear in every/other round, some every other few rounds, some once in a while/few days, some even longer - weeks.

I think it's depending on their powerlevel...meaning, they have more chance of appearing if their powerlevel is close to your level's cap.Not entirely sure anyway.

What is the most efficient & faster way to train up both Staff & Cloth proficiencies? My Elemental proficiencies is gaining steadily, but the staff & cloth are falling far, far behind.

Easy IW, whack everything. Heal with cure/regen. Rinse and repeat. Get a movie or something (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Ok, I just had a crack at end of days on hard. How does one plow through 50 legendary monsters without running out of mana? As you can see I got 67 rounds in and i had nothing left. 17 fun filled rounds of legendaries. As a caster there is no way I could do all 50, and I'm using shards and mana elixers. Every arena challenge has been faceroll compared to this. Any advice? (besides "kill yourself and roll a warrior") (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)

That's the most powerful weapon for mages to pass EOD on almost any difficulty (depending on your offensive power, of course). Basically it is: 1. Use a spell on legend to kill most of the other monsters. 2. Proc Coalesced Mana (CM) on legend by magic missile (MM). 3. Use nerf on legend. 4. Hit with staff till you get ether theft (ET). 5. Proc CM on legend again while ET is on. 6. When you feel you've enough mana, kill the legend with your holy/dark burst. How many times you need to ET depends on your offensive power. That's the only thing you need to adjust during battles. You don't even need mana elixers. What you need is more time.

Then I imagine 4 auto cast slots could actually cause more problems then they solve in this scenario?

Auto-cast is still useful for mages, especially in EOD when you don't get chanelling all the time. Just put SV, haste and spirit shield into slots, and cast them with chanelling after you've free-cast on regen2 and arcane focus.

Get a focus staff with 20%+ mana conservation, Priestess set, then go into a crude item world on IWBTH. Whack away. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

So my katalox destro staff has 32% ether theft. Higher ether theft chance would be a crucial point using this strat yes?

Not if you have to pay for it. Chance of proccing Ether Theft with a: - 25% staff → 76.29%
- 30% staff → 83.19%
- 35% staff → 88.39%
- 40% staff → 92.22%
(assuming a 5-turn long Coalesced Mana and that enemies don't double hit you or viceversa)

Higher ether theft chance/duration is always better, but that's not essential. As long as it's more than 30%/2 turns, you should be okay.

I use Haste/Spirit Shield/Spark myself (I have four for better efficiency), I could probably drop spark but it saves me when I start to zone out... Like yesterday when I lost to a normal FSM and then an hourly due to forgetting what set I was in

Meh....if that's x1 EOD it's almost impossible to die if you cast one offensive spell to clear most of the monsters. I am using the more risky method (proc CM -> nerf -> mass kill), but still spark activates in every 1000 turns or so. Auto-cast slot can be quite a bitch though; sometimes I forget to change my auto-cast setting when I interchange between mage, bleeding melee and stun melee, and that's not good.

Awesome advice is awesome. I just did endgame without using a potion. I weep to think of the 1500 or so mana elixers i've wasted over the last few months. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

Just to make sure, luck of the drawn DOESN'T affect equipment gained from the shrine right?
