@wr4st3r
Well as far as I know primary stat doesn't matter that much if you keep them fairly balanced.
You may find yourself playing in lower difficulty, but that's normal; the advantage of mage is its clearing speed.
Pick a destruction staff and a set of EDB phases. (even shitty EDB is better than max elementals)
You can pretty much skip that elemental transition phase with your level.
Then pick arcane focus, one tier 3 elemental spell, and one complement tier 1 elemental spell.
If you have anything you want to level up, use your elemental set to play through IW.
It surely makes things less boring, and you'll have a definite target.
If you have enough credits, you can also transit to holy/dark mage, but that's a big credit sink.

Gossamer is not that bad, I do my daily FSM on BT with a crappy underleveled Heaven-sent set and have no problems.
It's just that Phase is better. Higher damage, higher evade, better attribute bonuses, no burden, etc.
As for proficiencies, it doesn't take that long provided you're not powerleveling.
I had ~20 Forbidden prof at level 220, then I started doing all my arenas using Dark magic and by the time I was ~245 it was already maxed out.
Assimilator can speed things up a lot (getting to 5/10 costs only a million).
Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated.
Maybe I'll try with Gossamer since I already bought the sets, cannot hurt I guess.
Or I'll just get some cheapass, ultra low EDB Mjolnir or Freyr phase... Elec comboes with Wind right?
Though I see everyone goes with Elec+Fire...
The reason I haven't already started doing this is that I only have 2 levels of Violet Aura, and my magic hit chance is pretty bad.
I think I'll get one more level @ 230, and then see what's best next...
Was actually going for Yellow+Green+Blue V as soon as I hit 250, but as I keep missing too many spells (it literally kills me in marathons, cannot afford that with Heavy armor), will probably just go for Violet III + Yellow V + Green V, Elementals don't hit me anyway - if they do, I'm kinda done for lol.

I have a very strong suspicion that magic prof grows at a much quicker rate than melee prof
Can't really say much about mages, but playing with a 2H Mace, armor prof gain is damn slow, pretty much because of stun, while 2H prof goes up decently.
I had over 100 armor proficiency when I switched from 1H to 2H (that was about lv.110-120), now my 2H proficiency stands at 214 (is really catching up lately), while armor is still at 182 and goes up ultra slow.
