So I'm about to make the switch to mage (finally) and I'd like to ask about grindfests. Specifically, consumable usage.

What scrolls should I be using for a holy mage no-imperil build in PFUDORfest? And at which round should I start using scrolls instead of Innate Arcana? And what about using Holy Infusions and Aether Shards?

Holy mage,no-imperil build&PFUDORfest here, using avatar&gods&life from round 1,protection&swiftness&shadows&life would do the same,Infusions also from round 1,no Aether Shards.

I'm still a Dark Maging Noob: Pen5 + Spel4 or Pen5 + Arch4 on this willow?

Legendary Demonic Willow Staff of Destruction

It's for PFFest with Imperil style. I'd guess Pen5+Spel4, but why guess if you can ask the experts?

Since I managed to up my Hath gains to about 10 per day, and I already have 500ish in the bank, what perks should I be aiming for?
I already have IA up to V, and I'm mostly interested in stuff that's going to make the grind to 350 faster.
I also have the option of translating a bounty for hath in case the perk is costly, so don't consider that a restraint when making a suggestion.

Grindfest is not a good choice to do really.

Every bit of content in this game gives you some rewards for each round you finish, but you get a big reward for finishing the last round. Grindfest is 1,000 rounds long and if you don't get to the end, you're missing out on the main purpose of it. It also costs an extra stamina point more than other choices you can make. If you do 100 rounds and keep at or above 80 stamina, you spend one stamina per 25 rounds, so that would be four stamina. Grindfests costs five. Spending that five stamina in Arenas would let you clear 125 rounds. Even if they're the easy low level arenas, you get mostly the same rewards for 100-125 stamina, but you get the clear bonus for whatever arenas you complete in that time.

Grindfest also increases in difficulty as you get further in it. Arenas stay the same more or less throughout. As in, there is an increase to damage and HP as you go further in Grindfest, in addition to the number of enemies you're facing.

Overall, it's much better to clear arenas.

As for your staff and stuff: Mage style can be fun. But cloth doesn't protect you very well from hits, so you're taking more damage than if you were wearing heavy armor or even light armor. Spells also eat up mana fast, so you're using up MP pots. Something melee doesn't have to worry about.

If you're having fun and not having trouble running out of potions, then stick with mage as long as you like. But you'll probably want to plan around switching to melee around level 200-250; once your opponents start having spirit attacks, you're going to wind up getting killed a lot without much sturdier defenses. Most people suggest switching to 1h+shield+heavy armor to deal with that.

I'd suggest you make a second persona at that time if you haven't already. You can keep your magey build intact, and start from scratch to build a melee build without using up resets for stats/ability.

Don't worry, mage becomes viable again at high level. It's just the most competed for style of play, so gear and materials for upgrades are the most expensive of any build.

Daemon Duality is all around good for grinding faster.
Vigorous Vitality and the MP/SP perks are nice.
Exp boost perks are another obvious choice.
Crystarium and tokenizer are popular for increasing income.

If you're going mage, there is also the perk for your element to increase prof.

And has Staff Fighting Style ever worked?
Or because of the low survivability compare to other melee, nearly no melee stat on staff that it never works despite the Staff Damage ability at lv 0 give as much attack damage as lv 200 2H weapon one?

As things you fight get stronger, a glass-cannon build like Mage needs to go faster than the opponents and kill them too fast to retaliate. That requires very powerful gear, which is prohibitively expensive for anyone who isn't a) a long-time player who has built up a lot of wealth over time or B) spent enough RL cash to get that wealthy sooner.

Mage does work. It's considered the most powerful build. Which is why all the richest and highest level players spend so much for the gear needed to play it.

Ditto to everything Cryosite said. Lots of useful information there.

One minor correction: enemy count doesn't really increase in grindfests. Only the first ~20 rounds have a random number of enemies, after that it's always 7-9 all the way through to round 1000. Also, monster health remains unchanged, only their damage increases.

Effect is almost unoticeable at all. That perk had sense when we still had to wait out of combat for our HP/MP/SP to regen. This is not the case anymore.

I'd say that after Innate Arcana, the top priority should be the 3 HP/MP/SP buffing perks.

You have several layers of defenses available to you.

Mitigation is split into physical and magical and reduces damage incoming by a %.

Then you have evade and block, which apply to all attacks and are a chance to avoid all damage from an attack.

Parry and resist are physical/magical defenses. Where parry lets you completely avoid physical attacks, resist lets you completely or partially avoid magical attacks.
QUOTE

Shalana Of The Starlight Eyes casts Physic Hymn, and crits you for 2512 holy damage (50% resisted)

Then you have typed mitigations for piercing, slashing, and crushing damage as well as the six elements: fire, ice, wind, electric, dark, and holy.

Then obviously there is plain old "lots of hit points" to stay alive with.

If you're interested in the exact layering and mechanics of each, you'd probably want to check the wiki.

This was my run of Eternal Darkness on PFUDOR
Is that too slow? Take into account that my connection keeps making the game stutter, and at times it takes several seconds for a single turn.

Even when taking your connection into account, it's still quite slow for PFUDOR Eternal Darkness for someone of your level.
You're doing something wrong, and you should also do your maximum to see if you can't solve anything in the quality of your connection. A lot of lag issues involve the configuration of one's computer and router, not the quality of the Internet network.

I had that kind of stuttering issues like that some time ago, and it was due to my router. Solved it, very smooth now.

I have no way of setting up the router since this is a shared house I'll be living in just a month or so, so that's off the table.
As for what I'm doing, I realized I hadn't equipped the Imperil abilities, but I don't know if that alone is enough.
I'm a 1H+Heavy, I just hover until things are dead, and I imperil the schoolgirls when they appear.
That's it.
Here's my stats.
