Spark of Life failed activation with max SP, >75% MP, question
Bit of info first: I entered a random encounter with full HP, MP, SP. Did 4 spells in this order, Spark of Life, Protect, Absorb, Regen, and was defeated cuz SoA failed to activate even at max SP, and ~75% MP. I don't have Innate Arcana. Here's log
4 7 You have been defeated. 4 6 Hisoutensoku Mk-ii crits you for 1957 piercing damage. 4 5 Vaevictus Asmadi hits you for 1040 piercing damage. 4 4 Lance003 hits you for 1557 crushing damage. 4 3 You evade the attack from Veranus. After Regen spell I think I shoulda had = HP: 2.6k/10.6k, MP: 1.7/2.08k, SP: 899/899 4 2 You gain the effect Regen. 4 1 You cast Regen. 3 5 Bakaneko Vii hits you for 1646 piercing damage. 3 4 You evade the attack from Hisoutensoku Mk-ii. 3 3 You gain the effect Absorbing Ward. = HP: 2.6k/10.6k, MP: 1.8k/2.08k, SP: 899/899 3 2 You gain 0.02 points of supportive magic proficiency. 3 1 You cast Absorb. 2 6 You parry the attack from Puff The Magic Dragon. 2 5 Lance003 hits you for 1366 crushing damage. 2 4 Vaevictus Asmadi hits you for 1185 piercing damage. 2 3 You evade the attack from Bakaneko Vii. 2 2 You gain the effect Protection. = HP: 4.2k/10.6k, MP: 1.9k/2.08k, SP: 899/899 2 1 You cast Protection. 1 5 Veranus crits you for 1617 crushing damage. 1 4 You evade the attack from Hisoutensoku Mk-ii. 1 3 Lance003 hits you for 2244 crushing damage. 1 2 You gain the effect Spark of Life. = HP: 6.7k/10.6k, MP: 2k/2.08k, SP: 899/899 1 1 You cast Spark of Life. 0 7 Spawned Monster F: MID=1469 (Puff The Magic Dragon) LV=320 HP=80807 0 6 Spawned Monster E: MID=59678 (Bakaneko Vii) LV=318 HP=148668 0 5 Spawned Monster D: MID=64488 (Lance003) LV=319 HP=146391 0 4 Spawned Monster C: MID=46316 (Hisoutensoku Mk-ii) LV=322 HP=139652 0 3 Spawned Monster B: MID=5924 (Vaevictus Asmadi) LV=321 HP=81610 0 2 Spawned Monster A: MID=60497 (Veranus) LV=318 HP=74406 0 1 Initializing random encounter ... 0 0 Battle Start!
- Notice that all the time my SP was at max, and MP didnt drop below 50% yet SoA failed to activate. Before I cast Regen, the HP bar was still silver color noting that SoA was in place with enough SP. There was no notice of "Insufficient SP". Want to know how/why this happened and how to avoid it next time. I think a similar situation has happened couple times to me before, but this time was weirder.

Why am I not getting proficiency on some items? Are some equips unable to get proficiency? Is there any benefit to grinding in Grindfest over Item World?

Strange indeed. Maybe it is because Spark of Life somehow fails to activate when monsters get several turns in a row? (Regen has a long casting time.) Also, why don't you use Haste? It's a super useful buff, way more useful than Absorb. And why didn't you heal when your hp were low? QUOTE(ChanForu @ Nov 14 2014, 02:14) Why am I not getting proficiency on some items? Your character gets proficiency, not your gear. Maybe you mean pxp? You can level up your gear in Item World, getting pxp for it upon clearing all rounds (you don't get any if you leave before the end). http://ehwiki.org/wiki/Item_WorldGrindfest is interesting for grabbing crystals at high level. http://ehwiki.org/wiki/Grindfest

I'm a little confused why some equipment has proficiency written into the item box, though. (IMG:[ i.share.pho.to] http://i.share.pho.to/1953afdb_o.png) and some other equipment doesn't? (IMG:[ i.share.pho.to] http://i.share.pho.to/4fe2ac18_o.png) If it's like you say, shouldn't they both have that heading in the box? Sorry for being a noob.

That's bonus proficiency, adding to your base proficiency to give your effective proficiency (values at the botttom of the Statistics panel). You may get some from pieces of cloth armor with particular suffixes (like the Elementalist) or from staffs.

I usually wait after SoA procs and I get revived to use 'full heal' for healing. Feels like wasted turn when most of times during random encounter I die within the first couple turns before my buffs are all up. I do use Haste, but probably should buff it up sooner for future encounters. For randoms I normally do SoA>Prot>Regen>Abs>SS>Haste>SV, then Silence & Slow the monsters before I start attack.

I saw the formula given for additional loot drop chance for monsters: ((PL - 500) / 50) However this yields a negative number unless the PL is greater than 500. So would our loot drop chances be lower or 0 if we have monsters under or equal to level 500? :/

No. It only kicks in if the PL is greater than 500. BTW, this is for monsters you defeat in battle, not monsters you own personally. This post has been edited by Dan31: Nov 18 2014, 11:39

Is there a cap for cast speed for elemental or holy/dark? or is it just 'more is better?'..... Don't know if I should try to get more cast speed for my dark set.

How do I use restorative items in battle? I see there's a way to set it up, but I never see it listed when I'm in the middle of battle. Cure skill works okay, but the cool down time makes it leave a huge gap.

You need to set up your Battle Items first.

How does 'Cast Speed Bonus' Work?
My Dark set has 27.3% Cast speed Bonus, but multiple monsters can still hit me twice in one turn after I cast Ragnarok. The staff has 4x spellweaver, and 4/5 of the armor is 'Charged.'
Is Ragnarok just a slow as molasses spell, that cast speed has no effect on it?

Ragnarok, like all T3 spells, has a freaking long casting time: 1.8 according to the wiki (and unlike elemental T3 spells, you can't decrease it with an ability). Should be (100/127.3)*1.8 = 1.41 with 27.3% Cast speed Bonus, and then you have to apply your action speed too in the same manner. A monster with Swiftness fully chaosed (+50% action speed) should be able to act in 0.67 turn (0.5 at PFUDOR difficulty). (I keep changing my answers, sorry about that... I think I got it right this time.) This post has been edited by Dan31: Dec 13 2014, 02:00

So what would my 27.3% cast speed bonus reduce the Ragnarok's '1.8' to? (100-27.3%)*1.8 = 1.3? I doubt it bc Ragnarok's speed does not feel like a T1 Elemental spell. Maybe (100-27.3%)*0.8+1(base speed) = 1.6? This 'feels' more like it; speed of Disintegrate without cast speed bonus.

Oh ok, that makes sense. So can I assume that my 27.3% cast speed pretty much eliminates the monster PFudor bonus? Most likely my dark set will have more of a noticeable impact in IWTBH grindfest, where there is no bonus for monster action speed. Thanks for the answers (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
