If you try yourself, you will find, that Counter-Attack do little Damage with 1H-Mage. The Function of Counter-Attact is Stun. Butcher 5 can boost OFC a little, which can almost kill all Monsters after using Imperil (1H-Melee can do it without Imperil, that's the Difference), but without Buchter 5 the OFC still works.

I did play 1h mage for fun on ~2015 or so... made a few tests on GF runs, and made it through round ~500 or so... but it was so much worse than my mage set at the time that I never bothered to make a serious build out of it... pretty fun experiment though. Yes, it works only for Fun. It can't replace the Staff-Mage Set. I don't (need to) build a serious Set of it either, but just use the same Armors of my Staff-Mage.

Because grinding several hundred grindfest rounds for a few thsouand C doesn't seem to make sense. And without massive hath investments - crystarrium+monsters doesn't really work either.

Grindest is only there to burn your time and stamina for crystals and a few tokens, mostly.
Credits and equipments are only a bonus that shouldn't be relied on.

According to that, you should get more block

best i can do is 41.2% with my power armor set.

or 50.1% with a Shielding Plate set and loose 1/5th of my damage, and 7% speed.

You should try to switch the axe with something that has a decent parry. Rapier is mostly recommend.

A majority of the profit I get from GFs comes from artifacts still though; I'm averaging about ~360k profit, 8.5 PAs~=187k, 46750 credits, 77890 crystals~=123k at Crys V, and about 55k from lesser equipment drops. From estimated value, it can be assumed that most of profit is from PA >> Lesser Equipment drops ~>= Credits, with crystal contribution less than PA even if at Crys V, and less depending on Crys. The average profit is calculated from an average cost of ~133435, of which 106050 is from 21 stamina from Energy Drink with Long gone before daylight perk; add another 106050 if without.

Even then, it should be profitable without any Crys at all but with LGBD, and slightly profitable / breakeven without either of those.

(Note: these are of course not taken into account time spent doing this and/or wrist injuries doing this lol... after all it may just be better to get a job and then sell stars)

Power is good (presuming you're surviving and don't have to heal a ton), but speed is actually sometimes detrimental for the most part for 1H (if you're surviving well, it means more of your turns and less of the monsters' turns, and thus less counterattacks). I'd suggest reducing w/e is the source of your speed (too much agi perhaps?). Also rapier is generally preferred since it's proc is quite a bit better.

Also, I'm not sure what your strategy is, but Focus is quite useless (saw you used it a few times in your screenshot). I'd suggest going towards OFC as well.

In regards to "get more crushing + piercing resistance", I assume defense isn't too much of a problem, seeing how you used only 5 cures and no health consumables. Block improves both offense and defensive btw, since more counters = more dmg.
