Yea I'd say 50min is a bit too much. Benny-boy setup something under 10m and he said he burns 1200 staminas in an hour so that might be a better comparison tho. Even if he was really lucky with his finding, if 10m could do it I'm still inclined to think 20m can do something similar tho. Surely it's not gonna be DwD under 10min, but still decently faster than 1H.
My current 1H setup roughly takes about 2 hours to clear all 1,000 clear bonus arenas, which is like 1240 staminas, so roughly his setup is twice as fast.

Are you meaning rounds instead of stamina?

Mmm, I'm around 2500 rounds for DwD, and my equipment is far from optimized ($350k staff, 2 magnificents and not even forge 5 on everything). Though I think I did spend quite a bit more than 10m on it, part of it is due to high price of wind. I feel like a playable cold mage (no charged/radiants) can probably get to 2700 rounds or so with fairly minimal forging on phases. As Decon said, the vast majority of that budget will actually be spent on forging (and another portion on IW).

I see. Thanks for the inputs. Yea I'm just waiting on that decent staff I can purchase and I'll have to build my thing around that. Currently I'm considering 4+1 with no or maybe one charge for now, but then again I'll have to replace them later on.

Ah yes, do count roughly 400k cost of amnesia shards per equipment as well. I'm including that cost in the basic setup to play decently. Pen5 and Jug25 are not an option. That 400k does consider you have the dark descent perk, otherwise forget about going mage and get that perk first.

As I was saying the other day, you really need a rock-solid setup to rely on and prepare your switch in optimal conditions. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
It includes equipment with some forging, trainings, hath perks and depr prof.

Switching to mage is really not to be underestimated, even less to attempt with very minimal means. In particular, you'll be most likely investing in forge efforts that will be lost for good, especially if you use lower quality equipment that will need to be replaced more or less quickly. In which case a solid setup to fall back on is mandatory.

If budget is a concern, 1h mage really could be considered - much cheaper to get arena ready. The only big issue is that you won't be able to do the schoolgirl arenas - either stick with 1h or use mage for that (mage on schoolgirls a lot easier than the non-schoolgirl arenas).

Is buckler of battlecaster better than buckler of barrier?

my guess is that 1H mage mana pool sucks, they need the mana conservation the battlecaster provides

Either the waki or the buckler should be battlecaster for the mana conservation and magic accuracy. Depends on what you can get your hands on. Buckler of battlecaster will have higher conservation/accuracy, but less defense compared to barrier. No trouble clearing peerless PFUDOR IW with buckler of battlecaster, but maybe on grindfest it makes a difference.

I believe you won't be able to do this without sufficient level for the investment in base dex-end (for parry and HP).
and eventhough it's working fine on SG, I believe it will a be head-scratching play on non SG arena.

it can be done, just drive a hard bargain for the equips (plain prefix, unpopular cloth/phase slot), then use most of the fund for light-mild forge (i.e it cost ~800K to forge clothes prof to 20, and ~2M for phase EDB to 10, 2 cloth 3 phase 1.6M+6M =7.6M, rest for staff 25EDB+MDB is about 2M iinm)
drawback is it'll be a hard stretch to expect it usable to clear pf-grindfest comfortably even after mid-heavy forge.

IMO, no.
it's a wasteful investment to buy 6 pieces of rags if you expect to regularly use the playstyle and expand it for a long period of time.
Different story if you had 2-3 decent pieces ready and fill the rest with rags to make it work.

and as I said a few times, don't try to be cheapskate when trying maging or you're in for another dimension of hurts. cheap set will work but there are a long list of terms and condition.

I played 1h mage for a while. Quite a fun style - fun, not overpowering good.

You are not using the waki for hitting monsters. So IW doesn't matter. Hollowforged might reduce burden , but I never got there: Legendary Arctic Wakizashi of the Battlecaster, because featherweights are so cheap. So ideal IW would be leave it, and use featherweight shards. I used this waki of battlecaster together with barrier buckler, and got it working.

Edit: thanks Uncle, you are right of course, IW on 1h mage weapon is completely silly and useless.
