I was trying to give appropriate, empirical advice

It really, really doesn't look like it, sorry. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

All I'm given to see is someone who has wrong assumptions and little knowledge regarding the optimization of one's defense, who has "play rapier" as an answer to all issues and serves it to someone who wants to enhance his defense, which is completely unrelated.

Basically it was an extremely biased advice. Explain me how I can see that as empirical? If it really was your intention, well thanks for trying, but you're not conveying the proper info, nor doing it the proper way.

If you really want to give empirical advice, then first thank you for wanting to do so, second please do learn how to do it properly. I won't write an essay, so I'll keep it at this: don't tell players this or that is good/bad, do this/don't do that, but give them info regarding the options that are in their grasp, with their pros and cons, what are the results they can expect out of the choices he may be doing. In even shorter, don't say "do that", but "you can try doing that because".

I don't like lecturing, but I had to do it. No hard feelings. Cheers.

@ihatenamingthings:
Right now, 2H is a rather good option for you, but the obvious slowness of 1H is still compensated by a higher defense, even below Lvl250.

If you want to clear arenas faster, there are no secrets: you can either buff yourself up, whatever the means, or lower the difficulty setting. If you really want to clear as many arenas as possible everyday and optimize the raw credit income per time spent, then perhaps you can already try to play mage on Normal difficulty. If you can't "play mindlessly" with such a setting (which is quite likely but I'm not sure), then 2H is your best bet. It won't be as fast as maging, but it'll certainly be faster than playing 1H. If you do can equip power/shade armor in stead of plate/leather without needing too much healing, you'll benefit from a higher attack damage bonus to clear things faster. Of course, you won't be able to survive a difficulty setting (and potentially have better drops) as high as what you can get while playing 1H when playing 2H or mage.

In all cases, you cannot both maximize your income and save your time at once, it's just not possible without spending dozens of millions of credits which you probably don't have.
Be warned though: you won't drop Amnesia Shards on Normal. It is still often recommended to play at the very least on Hard difficulty to drop those, and the loss in clear time is usually minimal.

Personally, I prefer chosing an option that allows a good balance between time spent, healing, expense needed and income. A bit before Lvl400, I used to play arenas at Nightmare difficulty with my mage set, because that's the highest I could reach without needing too much healing, and it barely costed me any more time than lower difficulties. I mean, why playing a harder setting if it cripples my clear time, and why playing an easier setting if it cripples my income while barely saving time?

Hope you've got all the cards in your hands now. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't like lecturing.

I made recommendations based on his demand. Not "shoulds". That's all. You disagree with me since you only focus on defense, while I've assumed that new players want to clear Arenas as fast as possible, and comfortably.
That's why my advice was more comprehensive and directional. cuz I assume the rough goals he was going for, is not just "defense," behind the phrases regarding "defense", based on my experience as a melee player.

Rapiers+changing armors are the answer to this. One day he addresses defense, he will start complaining about speed. What I did was saving his time and our time.

There is always good and bad ways to play, objectively speaking, because the game is designed to be so. And most players want to be stronger, and faster. So I advised him to use rapiers before he could spends hours on SG runs.

Using a shortsword won't catch old players' attention. But if he start using axes, or clubs on an 1h build, other players might start making advice, just like how I did. It's a problem of extent, which you considered an issue of expression.

So do I. Not more excessive hate on ethereal...If he ever chooses ethereal, you and others will be the ones who start lecturing. It's a problem of extent.

Recommending a stronger playstyle does not affect his independence.

Ah yes of course he'll be asking about speed someday, probably but not with 100% certainty. Let's leave him some time to learn the game by himself too, one step after another, shall we? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
That's like if someone said "I've read my first hentai today, I want to see more but don't know what to read" and you show him one of the most hardcore ones while saying "okay, now you want this". (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Of course I wouldn't play a waki myself in his stead, and find a good balance between offense and defense, but keep in mind that doing mistakes, finding by yourself that you were going things the wrong way is very important too. If anything, I am one of those players who did the most stupid things and got called "offensively stupid" for that in the past, so I know oh too well. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

So let's just answer his questions, take our time to do it, and accompany him on his way to knowledge and wisdom.

Then I guess I'll continue on Hell and lower to Nightmare if it becomes a bit unbearable.

Regarding shade/power, I do get some sup/exq good pieces, but I'm going to limit it to RE. OFC will help that lots, and I'll push towards PFU RE soon enough, but I guess I'll stick to 2H light armor then. It's just frustrating since monsters are getting nightmare tanky, and maintaining the same difficulty is getting more and more annoying.

I'll see if I can buy/rent a good Ethereal estoc. I know about the debate, but I desperately need the AS for more survivability.

For now, I guess it's collecting 5 blood tokens for the daily spaghetti at least, I'll probably run less Arenas in general, or lower the difficulty at least. It isn't hard, it's just not brain dead, which hurts sanity when repeated hundreds of rounds a day.

Everybody's advice here sucks horribly.
As an improvement, I request you all try to suck less horribly in the future.

Here's meaningful advice:

1: Quit your job, stop paying the mortgage, and tell your significant other that they need to get the hell out.
2: Sell everything but your laptop, microwave, and refrigerator
3: Use that money on soda and frozen corn dogs.
4: Put hasps and padlocks on your doors
5: Put the fridge, microwave, corn dogs, and sodas next to your laptop
6: Buy every energy drink available
7: Play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until you run out of energy drinks.
8: Buy every energy drink available.
9: Play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until you run out of corn dogs/sodas
10: Rob a bank
11: Buy sodas and frozen corn dogs
12: Repeat steps 6 through 11 until you have every perk, training, and flagship equipment available.
13: Snap picture of your e-penis and upload so we can admire it.

Sincerely,

Roadtroll.

Playing like this is dangerous for Life and Health of a Person. People need to eat various Food, sleep enough, walk outside sometimes, clean the Haus. I recommand, if HV is really for some People as important as you say, and those People want to play more and longer, then they should live healthily and have Income. If they lose their Life or Freedom, they can't play more.

There's another option.

You can hire 3 or 4 people to play on relay scheme. Then it will be possible to play 24 hours a day. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

And look on the bright side: you would be creating jobs. Have you thought about how many jobs would be created if everyone did this? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

He wasn't entirely joking either, that's the worst. We do know some players who aren't far from that.

And that advice sucks too anyway. Just do like RoadShoe : take years of adopt-a-servers, sell the hath, get tokens thanks to the lottery. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif)

speaking of which, is there any way to speed up the turns?

Waiting for server syncs is driving me crazy. Daily grind would be less of a stress if I don't have to wait ~1-2s every action I take.

According to rule number 5 it would be illegal and as it is more or less unimaginable that people would do illegal things within the internet, I guess it was more of an hypothetical example (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

But talking about doing real damage:

QUOTE(-vincento- @ Jan 24 2019, 15:14) *

QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jan 24 2019, 15:39) *

Ok, this is obvious a total landmine. Maybe even a full field of it. But now I'm curious and willing to take a jump even if I can already feel all the facepalms and "why" crys:

Why exactly is elemental better than ethereal?

With a look at the wiki for me as a beginner the advantages of ethereal are maybe just more obviouse:
- no inteference = less mana cost
- no burden = higher evade chance + if otherwise > 40 higher attack speed + if otherwise > 120 even higher crit chance
- (short term advantage) even before item level 10 void strike which does probably slightly more damage than an additional elemental strike

As far as I was able to collect the advantages for elemental weapons these are:
- 25% additional magic damage in that element (I once tried to use an attack spell. The resulting damage was embarresing. I doubt that 25% would get me beyond shameful, but maybe that's a higher level thing)
- 25% more resistance to that specific element? Not sure about that though - the wiki says something that could be interpreted like that.

And there is another total noob question:
What exactly is a "crystalpack"? As one could guess from the name and https://ehwiki.org/wiki/File:Crystal_packs_vs_PL.png it is probably a package of multiple crystals. But how many of each or is it random?
For example qinkin1979 offers "Crystal pack (1200) @ 21K" at the WTS board.
As one crystal costs 10 credits at the basar the pack should at least inculde 2100 crystal - otherwise it wouldn't be ... that of an amazing deal, right? So i guess the "(1200)" is not the number of crystals?
I thougth about to just buy it and find out myself, but if I mess up at a shop because of the lack of knowledge it could really piss other peole off - so here I'm again! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

As always: Thanks in advance and regards
-hopkar

Edit: My question for the advantages of elemental weapons meant for 1h users. For mages I'm sure the additional spell damages is more than useful.
And as I'm already at asking questions: How do I post links to equipment? Or rather: where can I find the url of a specific item?

Uncle says overrated, not better. You get free void strike at IW10, or a random element for ethereal, which makes it less of a gamble when you can get desired ele from the start and ethereal weapons will cost more.
1h doesn't care about burden and interference.

QUOTE(hopkar @ Jan 24 2019, 21:40) *

If type of crystals is not mentioned, it's pack of 1k crystals of each type and it is a far better deal than buying crystals separately.
