For 2m you're not going to be able to get anything decent. You could probably get an adequate redwood staff for under 500k, and you'd have enough left for 4 plain phases and 1 cotton. You might even be able to get those under 1m, but you wouldn't have much money left for forging/IW/hath perks. A dirt cheap setup like this would be enough to clear every arena, but you be constantly healing. I suggest saving at least 10m, get some cheap charged or very good plain phases, get a decent redwood of destruction, and then spend the rest of the budget on forging/IW. Pen5Spel4 on staff, Jug4/5 on the clothes, only forge the staff and the cotton. Get the prof perks (Eminent Elementalist, Evil Enchantress) and Demon Duality 1 later on.

Is Willow or Redwood a better staff type for Wind mage? Is it possible/realistic for a Wind mage to play without Imperil?

For SG Arenas, the ideal setup is Redwood Staff and Radiant Phases, and 0.79 prof_factor For GF, Willow, Charged, and ~0.7 prof_factor

What's prof_factor and how do I measure it? What kind of potencies should my Redwood staff have for the SG Arenas?

Wiki: prof_factor = (effective_proficiency - monsterlevel) / monsterlevel For potencies, go with Penetrator (Counter-Resist) and Spellweaver (Casting Speed).

Monster level is capped at my level, right? Since my effective Elemental Proficiency is currently 716 at level 412, is my prof_factor 0.737?

I dont think it is a viable option to run a wind mage without imperil. If you want to run a no imperil mage, then you are better going for a dark or holy one.

prof_factor = effective_proficiency / your_level - 1; 716/412 = 1.7378, so your prof_factor is 0.7378. And, for only SG arenas, 5 Pen and 4 Archmage would be better than Pen+Spell combo. This post has been edited by sssss2: Aug 21 2018, 18:35

To recap, Wind mage is not a good suit for Imperil, Tempestuous Redwood Staff of Destruction is ideal for SG arenas with 5 Pen/4 Archmage, my 0.7378 prof_factor is ideal at 0.79, and Radiant is the best prefix for my armor. Thank you all very much.

Finally got proper imperil, want to become a wizard. Got a bit lucky with an auction, have ~70m, already have perks IA5, DD1, VV, EE, no prof ones. What element and what prefixes/suffixes would you aim at in my place?

QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Aug 21 2018, 22:35) You mean if i were you? Level 400! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) England is my city, and lv400 is probably within a couple weeks of grind's reach. Actually, I have no idea how exp curve goes later, but I would still like to have a general idea of what should I watch out for in shops and auctions. It seems finding optimal gear takes time too. First was thinking about holy, seeing how holy debuff should help damage a bit more. Then found out how willow staff helps imperil style, and non-imperil play is probably too expensive. Should I aim for dark then? Or maybe something like elec would be more efficient with my credits?

Well about holy, the problem is imo much more that it is played mostly by the really rich people, therefore the really good stuff cost a shit tone or even two. For everything more you have to wait for the mage experts to answer you. As much as is would like to help you, mage isnt really a style i am an expert of. Sorry. Best imperil style elements are wind and elec. Then a bit behind them comes dark. Then a bit behind that comes cold. But, I used to play cold mage and it actually works very well. Dwd in 15min. Grinffest at Pfudor in 1 HR 10 min. If you have 70m I'd go for wind or electric. 1. Get elemental prof perk. 2. Get deprecation magic perk ( well maybe not so high priority) 3. Find a good staff. 15m should do that. The staff determines the element. 4. Then start collecting cloth gear.

70m? how you guys earn credits? I get 200k per day, include selling trophies(to blackjac00). If I sold out other staffs, maybe 250? it would be next year to get my 70m, if I don't buying staffs.
