Quick question, do people who play 1H use imperil at all?

Yes.

I personally use it all the time nowadays with my 1h persona usually to gain more depreciating prof or on the occasional boss that I encounter.

Mostly I'm just wondering if I'm playing the game in some retarded way or not.
(you're not alone in that)

I don't use imperil. Granted, I haven't added points to it, but it's useless compared to more direct spells like sleep. The only time I'd ever use it, or found it useful is against level bosses, when I've got to throw everything I have at the guy before I get squashed like a bug. Drain's useful then, but not on easier levels.

I start with some haste, use some sleep to knock out a few of the enemy, put up some shields, speed, regeneration and Another Life. Then I start hammering down the list of foes, and casting heals until I win or lose. I don't use a lot of attack magic, saving it for the heals and relying on my sword.
For longer arena fights it's about the same though I might be spacing out the lesser spells, like smokescreen, to get a few more statpoints.

I use it all the damn time. This is even an absolute necessity when you play Shortsword like me.

Against SG and the FSM of course. Against normal enemy only to get some prof.
Ehm, shortsword is not really a good weapon at all. You should use a rapier. Penetrated Armor is just a so much better debuff as Bleeding Wound ever could hope to be. Well, optimal IW for a 1H weapon would look like B5F4 or B4F5. Which one of them is the best depends on your damage. Is your damage low, the higher crit damage of B4F5 gives you an overall better bonus. If your damage is high, you benefid more from B5F4.

at extremely high ADB shortsword might be on par with rapier or even above it. waifu maniac tested it using a nearly equivalent ADB% shortsword to rapier both being holy and the shortsword was only around 15mins longer for PFFEST.

one important detail to take away is that the shortsword was only 50 forged dmg. there is a chance that a fully forged shortsword will either be equivalent or even outperform a rapier at the highest levels or melee play. because when you get to that point you're 2-4 hitting most monsters anyways so penetrating armor doesnt get much value. you eventually get as much or more from just spreading the bleed.

for 95% of the scenarios rapier will be better but with fully forged slaughter armor and perks shortsword might outperform rapier. the only reason shortsword might not outperform rapier at the highest levels is if penetrating armor also increases damage from counter attacks(im not sure about this)

It's calculated from your base HP tank and there's a formula in the wiki and i forgot it, sorry...

Health Points = (500 + (Level * 10) + (END * 6)) * HP Tank * vigorous_vitality

If I am correct, Juggernauts are calculated together with HP tank. So the actual increase isn't 50% for 5 j5 equipments. I don't remember the test results others did, but 5 j5 should bring you over 25% health rather than 50%.
On the contrary, VV is directly multiplied. So it gives you 10% more health.

Tbh, i am not even surprised. Iirc mantra did the same with an axt. I am just not sure about the fully forged shortsword. The last half of those upgrades dont give you the same amount of additional damage as the first 50. I dont say you are wrong about it, just that i have my doubts. Btw, we just mention that we are talking about damage and parks, even i havent reached now. Also i am quite sure the SG arenas would still be faster and when i look at how much time the other arenas need for me, i will still stick with my Glorified Flashlight of Flashing Gloryness aka Legendary Hallowed Rapier of Slaughter. Of course it does, PA doesn't increase your damage, it decreases monster physical defense, so every physical attack (normal, skill, counters) will benefit from it.

Anyway, a loooong time ago I estimated the difference between rapier and shortsword to be around 5% when playing normally (no imperil, no skills).
I don't think high forging or DD perk really changes this difference.
A fully forged shortsword build has ~4% more ADB than a fully forged rapier build.
This, imho, will never be enough to compensate for the loss of PA, unless you use some specific style (like 1H + imperil).

True. But we should not forget that most counter attacks will just hit monster that has no PA debuff therefore counterattacks benefit not fully but only to a limited degree from PA.

Copy and Paste from the Wiki
Arena: Monsters do not get stronger as the rounds progress; they remain at 100% strength at all times.
GF: Monster damage starts at 50%(?) base and increases by 0.4%(?) per round.
IW: Monster damage starts at 100% base and increases by 2%(?) per round.

Hmm you can do the maths (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The last rounds of GF PFUDOR is the hardest challenge this game has to offer. So far. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Should I use this piece of equip as a mage, or am I better off looking for a radiand/charged piece, and/or a phase of heimdall one for the pants slot?

Also, is this staff decent for the time being?

Don't invest in cloth until you find a good staff, that's my advice. And that's not a good staff. The pants are good, just not great. With full prof, you could use a peerless robe to get relatively close to 1.0 prof factor. But pants, you always need 2 slots. Then I'd prefer shoes + cap or shoes + gloves. Not pants.

Just wondering if things changed with new 600 prof cap. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No, I was referring to the 600 cap: you need robe, and even then you won't get 1.0 exactly.

Sooo, I am pretty much upgrading only my Legendary Arctic Rapier of Slaughter, since I don't have the necessary materials for my other equipment, but all of them are essentially Magnificent and higher.

Is there ANY reason to have Low-grade materials of any kind? What do the low-grade materials upgrade tier-wise?
