without resorting to naivety, let's just simply say that shopkeepers rely on their own reputation. they just *cannot* afford to scam people, if they want for their name (thus, their business) to remain intact. an oddity here and there can always happen, and this is why you have mods to refer to.
there's also a big amount of people who don't run a shop who're still very correct, of course.
but yep, on a general base people around here are worth your trust.
