I have complained about this a few times.
It's too expensive and it's such a waste since many equipments I will not use them when they come to Persistent.

Without keyboard (mobile), install HV Utils and use Equip Inventory menu, select item check box and press WTS Code button.

With keyboard, install Live Percental Ranges script and then press L

I wouldn't use either; the magnificent one is missing a prefix and the exquisite one simply won't have high damage output.

I wrote a guide for helping pick out mage equipment, which might be worth reading if you haven't already seen it. Your chosen prefixes and suffixes will depend on which damage type you plan on using.

The gameplay loop for mages is pretty simple - imperil enemies at the start of the round, then blast them with your best available damaging spell.

You should get M quality staff at least with matched prefix + suffix
Switching from M to L only makes you lose 10% of your materials (catalyst not refunded)

Holy > Dark > Elec ≈ Wind > Cold > Fire. Their prices follow the same order
You can check the auction history for the price.
People recommend elementalism unless you're really rich.
Staff must have matched prefix and suffix.

I'll check the guide. I have been looking in WTS for a Magnificient elemental willow/redwood staff of destruction with decent stats but it seems it's not that common.

Willow is generally better (counter-resist) and elec is better than fire because willow gives more elec and wind EDB.
You always need to upgrade your staff and proficiency part and the forge cost is billions of credit.
So, if you can find legendary, go legendary. If not, M staff is also enough.
Here is my recommendation order for these,
Elec willow > fire willow > arctic redwood > fire redwood

Soulfuse always sets the equipment to your level. So, level doesn't matter if you can soulfuse it.
Attribute percentiles and staff type matter.

soulfuse makes equipment stats scaled with your level. so what you'll be looking into is the live percentile of each staff. Super's live percentile user script would be very helpful.

Next step is choose the right element. If you are sure to play with electric then don't ever looking at any wind/cold/fire.

thirdly since you are talking about persistent mage, don't soulfuse any of item you listed. Cost of soulfusing magnificent is the same of soulfusing legendaries. Pick one that you could use now or you could hit the level in a short period of time.

Which looks very decent to start off with, there are just no legendary willow under 450+ anyway so it'll be fine to try out mage. Now i suppose i have to look for the armor! Maybe i'll finally complete the grindfest!

To add onto this as a semi-casual, you really don't have the bandwidth to do Grindfest or IW for others, so staying with a Redwood Staff of Destruction is still good for Arenas. You sort of come to a consistent Stamina drain without Energy Drinks after doing Arenas and Ring of Blood Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) every day and maximizing the XP and credits you get per Stamina. You also need more elemental proficiency to reach 0.79 for elemental mage or 1 for holy/dark if you're using a Willow Staff because it has less elemental proficiency than Redwood Staff.

At 500, it's a bit different because unless you're aiming for a specific mage proficiency, it really doesn't matter that much if you're below 70 Stamina and want to do Grindfest or IW.

Routine for me is probably Arenas + RoB FSM on Persistent, and 75-90 Arenas + RoB FSM on Isekai (and Tower + IW if I'm feeling energetic). That's already 1.4 hours + 1+ hour on early-mid fire mage gear and DD3 for Persistent, 1H Heavy on Isekai.

your dark and holy prof is high for your level, but not high enough to matter much. If you start playing elemental mage, that elemental prof will catch up fast. Holy mage is the absolute worst if you don't have a lot of credits. It shines when you can get good gear, which is very expensive. Dark is at your level a little bit worse than elemental, as the mana costs are higher. Elemental is what I recommend for you. But whatever you do: don't play Holy AND Dark at the same time. Even as 1h, casting only Holy spell would be faster than casting both. But as mage, it's just very inefficient to combine them. Only way is to go full dark mage and use the T3 spell of Holy at start of round. That's not faster, but not slower either.

I'm assuming that you don't want to use a staff with mana conservation, and that you already take advantage of channeling for arcane focus and regen.

Aether shards can reduce your mana costs by 10%, which may be enough for you.
