I thought for 1H people don't cast these because it's detrimental

Definitely misinterpreted by me then. It was the takeaway I had from reading various previous comments over time and I didn't calibrate it for my level/lack of ability. Easy to conflate "not optimal" with "shouldn't use" sometimes.

For 1H I have SS/SoL/Protection on IA, and I pretty much just cast Regen/Heartseeker with occasional Absorb thrown in there. If I feel like I have extra mana I'll burn a imperil/gale/smite/corruption just to get that minor proficiency boost.
2H I have SS/SoL/Haste on IA, pretty much only use Health Draughts, manually cast protection/heartseeker on lower difficulties and add in Shadow Veil/Absorb for higher difficulties
Mage I load up everything since I struggle vs. all

I'm sitting on around 10M liquid and another 10M or so in miscellaneous trophies and other sellable items I'd say.

That's a lot of credits, you should build 1h+force shield+power armor first, with those credits you can build a very good one. If you still insist to build a mage then you sould be patient, 20 M is just a price of 1 or 2 gears. Last auction was 1 gear = 1 GS....

Just leaving this here: I cast 3 imperils per round while playing 1H, and I use Haste once the Grindfest is starting to get really tough.

Thank you for the replies, Uncle Stu, Ikki Pop, Screamaz, Gianfrix94, igs88, and decondelite. It's at least given me a new baseline on some things to expect and updated some misconceptions I had.

I know some issues could be solved simply by buying better stuff with the equity I'm sitting on, but I'm one of those types that gets attached to equipment I personally found etc.

don't mind them, they will raise on their own with dawn.
also, don't waste turns casting spells if not needed: you're a melee with low magic firepower, so you'll basically waste a turn in which mobs can rape you freely just to deal, uh... 50 dmg? 100? guess you got the picture. for how much of a waste it may be, letting mana overflow is the least of your concerns.

allow me: if you're so crazy to sink all those credits into one lone item rather than going with mid-tier-yet-still-very-good gears, you deserve to spend all of them.

let GS-tier items to endgame players, otherwise we'll also need to tell to newcomers how to assemble a decent yet cheap build (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

upgrades on armors are overestimated. my holy mage build costed less than 1M and i can clear all arenas with it. at Hard difficulty, but i still can.

you play with shortsword, though. but yep, imperil may be not so useless for 1Hers too

Oak of Heimdall, which offers a massive Holy EDB boost.

Though they are stuck to that element, which is one of the reasons why fire and cold are inferior to the rest of options. Oak staves need some suffix changes but I doubt it is happening anytime soon.

People are absolutely correct. Destruction is better than pretty much anything else, and as far as i understand, the only reason for holy mages to use oak over kata is counter-resist. I have no clue why dark mages would ever use kata.
