What do you need to be aware of to level faster? When I approached the mid-100's things started to go really really slow.

Aha. This one I can answer.

Well first you should keep in mind to replace your gear when you really did outlevel it. A few level are fine, but when you still use an item that is 50 level below, as an example, you really should replace it. Also allways remember to set your abilities. The more you level up, the more possible abilities you could set. It is also important to play on the right difficulty, personally i would suggest to use the difficulty that gives you the most boni, but you are still been able to play without to die on a regula basis.

higher difficulty matter the most in terms of exp growth, so play on highest possible difficulty which is comfortable for you.
the exception is RE as it have 5x exp multiplier and it's only an easy one round battle, try increasing the difficulty when you play RE by one or two level, or even straight up to IWBTH/PF.

after that try build a playstyle which could bring you faster to playing PFUDOR comfortably, 1h-light with a vision of moving into 1h-heavy is good, you could do dw or even 2h light until late 100/early 200 but I doubt that will fly on pf in mid 200.
If you wants to experiment various playstyle, do it in mid-late 300 or early 400 when your native survivability from level allows you do it using shitty equips. Also, generic equipments are dirt cheap when you reach those level.
It would only take 1-3 months to reach mid 300 on PFUDOR if you play arena and RE daily.

Hello experts,

Could you please advise on how to upgrade the forge level in a cheap/fast way?

My forge level (level 20) could only upgrade one attribute to level 35, but I need to upgrade to level 50, and unfortunately I soulfused the equipment so other players can't upgrade it for me...

Thanks. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Simple, upgrade the other attributes as far as you can (in all the pieces). (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

upgrade your other equipment.
there are no "cheap and fast" way to grind your forge level
either let it increase naturally while you upgrade your other equips, or burn credits by buying upgrade materials to intentionally bump the level up by forging whatever you could afford in your inventory.

you could try salvaging, then re-use the materials, but as far as I remember you'll get a hit on your forge level when salvaging equipment; not to mention that you still need to re-buy the catalyst too, which aren't cheap either.
To be honest I couldn't confirm this due to obvious reason, but I vaguely remember an event when somebody losing around half of his current forge experience progress from salvaging an equip with 30-40 level of upgrade which he bought from bazaar, but s/he's happy from getting lots of high grade materials.

edit : nvm the salvage = decrease forge exp removed on patch 0.80
QUOTE(Tenboro @ Jun 8 2014, 17:32) *

0.80 - 2014-06-08
- Forge EXP is now calculated from the value of the catalyst plus a rough amount from the materials that would be lost during a salvage. Forge EXP is therefore no longer deducted when items are salvaged.

Just to add to this, increasing one piece of gear at at time isn't the most effective either way, check out the forge optimiser in scremaz's signature, as you do the other equips, you'll possibly find that you've levelled up enough to continue. This was a mistake I've been doing as well until recently.

Thanks for your advice above.

I'm trying to start as a cold mage, and my current problem is the prof factor is too low(less than 0.6).
to increase my prof factor I have to upgrade the prof of shoes or the prof of staff(I have the elemental prof hath perk)
Legendary Frugal Cotton Shoes of the Elementalist
Legendary Arctic Willow Staff of Destruction

For your suggestion to upgrade other equip/attributes, I am a poor (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) mage who can't afford CP and my phase clothes are not charged/radiant ones, and upgrade other attributes(evd/agi/pmi/mmi/int/wis) may not have much effect on the start of a mage, right?

I ask the question just because I heard someone had upgraded forge level quickly by using fair leathers, since leather materails are much cheaper than other types. I am not sure if one of you have similar experience. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

For poor starters like me, there was one thing to learn: I should find a full-forge-level player to help forge my equip before I soulfuse it... (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I played cold mage when I started maging. However, that was at level 400. I had already forged my 1h heavy gear by then to get some forge levels. You did notice that mage is an expensive play style, right? It can be faster that 1h heavy, but only after you invest millions. You need to forge your phases a bit as well - to get the forge level, but also to get the EDB, PMI, MMI, Evade, AGI, INT and WIS you need. That's what I did to slowly get to max forge level.

As always, you can play without spending all those credits, just don't expect to be faster than melee okay?

Forging leathers is a very ineffective way to gain forge levels, but it does work. You will be spending materials and katalysts on an item that you won't use. This is a game that needs some dedication to get to the fast clear speed - there are not many quick fixes (except for selling stars or doing bounties or running some H@H clients).

you'll get about 45 forge exp per upgrading 5 level of fair leather (9 exp each), that cost about 1950c/5 or 390c per upgrade (6 low grade leather and 1 wispy catalyst, assuming low grade leather cost you 50c each and wispy catalyst 90c) - the cost is the same up to superior as they cost the same stuff to upgrade
which means it's 43.3c per every forge exp
from your level (20 to 50) it's about 260.000 forge exp, which means you need to spend a little bit over 11 millions in material only to finance it.

now that's excessive; assume you salvage the material, let's count only the wispy catalyst cost first.
260.000 forge exp / 9 = 28.888,888888 let's just round it up to 28889 times forging, times the 90c cost per wispy catalyst that's ~2.6 million credits
the leather cost (due to salvaging only return 90% of material) might be 10% * 28889 * 6 * 50 = 866.670c
in total it's still about 3.4million credits

that doesn't count the amount of credits you need to get the fair leather in the first place as I doubt you have 2000+ fair~superior leather just laying around on your inventory.

that's just rough calculation done on the fly based on ssss2's hvutils number.
it might be faster, but I won't say it's cheap.
also forge 30~35 is enough for a start I guess. don't force yourself just to get forge 50. as the last 10 or 20 didn't give the same return as big as the first 20.

Well, i did boost my forge level a bit by forging average cloth, i had a surplus of LGC anyway, so wasting a few of them didnt hurt me. But in the end i still got most of my forge xp from just normal forging. And i wouldnt suggest to do that to get a lot of xp, may just when the next level is close anyway.

So.. a question about the replacing of equipment.
I'm currenlty at the impass that most of my equipment [should] be changed. It's beginning to feel alot more troublesome to kill monsters.

However, everything in the bazaar is what I percieve to be nearly equal to what is already equipped, just a few stats mixed around.., Looking at low level WTS posts either the level is too high, or stats are equal to bazaar items with slightly better pricing.

Am i missing some kind of big revelation? Wiki's throwing out a lot of info, but I seem to have some difficulties parsing all of it (>'.')>

Happen to have any copy-pastable wisdom lying around ? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

if you feel your damage output is low, get something that could decrease enemies' defense, either piercing weapon (PA stack) or use imperil. the former is way easier to use than the later.

the primary reason of changing equipment is either you found something better or because you outlevel them, if you don't think you could get anything better in the near future, then soulfusing exquisite that you would use for a long time is fine too (so you won't outlevel them, also they only cost 250 soul fragments to soulfuse, you should be able to get those in one week or two if you actually do the RE). people back then use exquisite until mid 300 - even 400; and there are no problem with that... (my 1h set still have 3 magnificent)
doesn't apply on mage, if you use exquisite on mage, don't play mage.

Ah, I was of the impression that soulfusing should only be done quite a bit later on in the levelling.
I'll try this one out and see what happens.

Well, should is a strong word in this case. Yes, usually people wait until they get Mag or even Leg befor they start soulfusing their equipment. But when you have the shards and no longer want to replace your equipment all the time. Why not doing it earlier with exq? Just keep in mind that buying fragments is really not cost effective and RE only gets you that far.

soulfusing is for equips which you would use for relatively long time, regardless of it's level or quality.
if you're thinking of using an exquisite which is already far below your level for another month or two, there is little reason to not soulfuse it. Even if you find a better one right away, getting the 250 fragments back is just 1-2 weeks doing half of daily RE allocation, mere 5 days if you do all 24 of them daily.

the price for soulfusing 6 legendaries 100 level more than your level is 6000 soul fragments, if you have more than that and you have equipment you currently use way below your level, then that's s not saving, just excessive hoarding.
heck, even half of that should be enough saving in general.
