Is there a reason I've never seen Legendary Cloth Armor for sale? I've seen around 15 light and heavy Legendary armor pieces for sale, but not once Cloth. Is it rarer, does it get bought faster, is it too precious to sell at high levels? Or am I just overthinking everything and just check equipment shop at bad times? I don't even want Legendary Cloth, I'm at too low of a level and I think buying Superior ranked Light Armor is enough since I don't have tons of Coin, but I'm curious if there's a reason or not.

It is for sale in shops in WTS, but rarely in the bazaar.
Legendary and magnificent cloth armor usually gets salvaged instead of sold to the bazaar because high-grade cloth is usually worth more than the selling price of the armor. If the armor is valuable, people can get more credits by selling it in a shop than by selling it to the bazaar.

Yeah, i was dying way too much.

I figure i'll patch my mage build slowly, seems clearing the higher leveled arenas on low difficulty still yields some tokens, i was able to sell some stuff and someone was kind enough to send some creds, so now i'm no longer on the cliff of bankruptcy.

Grabbing stuff off of the giveaways just to scrap seems like taking away the chance for someone to actually use the stuff, idk.

It's only been a couple of days since i started playing again so i figure i'll get better at not dying again soon enough.

that's how mage is on the level range where survivability is tested the most.

those on giveaways are usually meant for use, not for salvaging or reselling.
I believe sometimes there is even a clause which prohibit you to sell or salvage it.
Also, since the main problem of sharing equipment is it's level, afaik generally it's expected that when you outgrow those equipment level, you could pass them to another lower level player who need it to kickstart their adventure.
so, yeah, certainly not for just scrap. there might be people giving away scrap and other material for free though, I certainly see some people giving away mid grade materials sometimes.

also, monsterbation have a cutoff where it'll stop when you're expected to die, you need to figure out the setting which will suit your own character though, that might help you from dying due to mistake on your part.

So, being a cold mage and counter resist being important on a staff, should i switch to a willow staff instead of redwood even if elemental damage is gone and prof is lower? would the gains outweigh the losses?

for cold mage Arctic Redwood of Destruction is the first option
Arctic Willow of Destruction is second
PARD > PAWD > LARD > LAWD

Staff's potency - Penetrator5 is musthave no matter what
for IW and Grindfests - Pen5 + Spellweaver4
for Arenas - Pen5 + Archmage4 also works

Arctic Redwood Staff of the Elementalist can work with 5 phases, i wanna try it, but need good staff with good prof and i still can't get any.

sssss2‘s plays
Willow always being better. But you need the least amount of prof factor to maximize that, 0.68 I say. Otherwise, redwood might be better for you at the moment.
If you play Arenas only, Staff choice doesn't make noticeable difference.

Prof factor is actually 0.79 to get the 40% mitigation reduction required to combine with imperil to reduce any enemy to 0. Otherwise this post is accurate. (Redwood is marginally better for schoolgirl arenas because the schoolgirl's stats haven't scaled up to match normal monsters, and they don't have chaos upgrades. Regular monsters have much more resist.)

It's not necessary, and it's almost impossible to get to 0.78 for most low-level players. With 0.7, one can already erase 70% elemental mitigation, in which most monsters don't have such high ones yet. From 0.7 to 0.78, that requires a lot excessive profs, with only a little more damage on monsters that have 70+ mitigation. That's never worth mentioning.

Even without this precondition, Willow is much better than Redwoods in usual plays.
Of course I know redwood is better for SGs, but it's also not important as it doesn't affect the validity of my conclusion. That's why I claimed not too much difference between them in Arenas, because the speed advantage of willows on normal plays almost offsets redwood's benefits in SGs. Not worth investigating for his case.

I know everything you say. I am answering a question, not conducting a study. Neither quantitatively investigating a certain study. Not every detail and information is worth mentioning. It only makes things more complex, and harder to absorb.

this discussion does not help new players visiting this thread.

I will update the wiki advice-advcanced as 0.68 is surely outdated and based on a monster population from long ago.

Well, my prof. factor was a sad .114 but i managed to get it to .431 after shrinning all i had an finding a not-as-crappy mag redwood staff. I'm still in the process of replacing my armor and will look for a willow staff as well.

Overall i think i picked up the pace quite nicely on arena now that i tweaked my abilities, got some pots and managed Eternal Darkness in 1 hr on normal. It's still slow, but it's getting there.

Thx again for all the tips.

I finally tried hover action again after getting ptsd from all the times i died and managed to blaze through 90 rounds on normal, small steps...

not always.
it's better when you ssss2 whit 500 level, 600 profs and peerless equip
when you 300-350 level newbie mage you need redwood's prof and damage

this looks like an interesting hint.

which could be the proper conditions to use:
1. CR staffs?
2. MDB staffs?
3. EDB staffs?
4. prof staffs?

my 2 cts:
1. As soon as you can afford them
2. Destruction suffix for all elements that have it, if you can afford them.
3. For holy or for all other elements if you can't afford an excellent destruction.
4. Just for experimenting, fooling around, and for doing it wrong

CR is the wood type. MDB is the suffix. So you'd want both. But a good CR staff with EDB suffix works as well. For holy it's the only way.

In fact, interestingly the math shows the EDB suffixes to be better than destruction (at least given some average MDB values for a high level player). It is only a very incredibly small difference, though, and of course Willow cannot roll any of the EDB suffixes so it's mostly immaterial.

I wrote a big post about this in the research thread!

On points 1 and 4, I concur with Noni, but there are a few small cases where others are better.

Redwood of Destruction (and therefore EDB suffixes, too) are better for schoolgirl arenas, where the schoolgirls do not have very much resist, so the effect of CR there is mostly wasted.

Willow is obviously significantly better for imperil mages in IW/pfest/non-schoolgirl arenas, but for non-imperil mages... willow is still better for all but fire/cold where redwood is preferable.

Prof staffs are wasteful; you can get the prof better from cotton slots without losing so much firepower. A trade of phase EDB is far lower than the trade of staff EDB (with suffix) and, seeing the comparison between MDB and EDB staffs on damage, it can be inferred that the MDB from destruction is similarly valued. This is good news! Nobody wants to forge 5 phases if they can avoid it (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Lower level players may need to make up more prof from their gear, but it is perfectly acceptable to use 3+2, or robe or pants slots for prof, since it will most likely last a pretty long time before making the switch to 4+1 with shoes. For the record, I do actually agree with Vincento that it's not super important to hit exactly 0.79 prof, and somewhere in the general vicinity is fine to play with.

Edit: and if you're interested in how much the CR contributes to imperil resists, I wrote a simulation for that and posted the results here!
edit 2: yes, you are entitled to use prof staffs if you find fun in trying alternate setups

Is FUHROHDAH and Orbital Friendship Cannon damage dependent on equipment? If it is, is it more optimal to stack attack base damage or crit chance? Thanks.
