QUOTE(DemonEyesBob @ Aug 20 2009, 22:42) In case you didn't get the message, cake is not really any different from normal now. I'm taking 100+ damage from monsters on cake. I can't get past round 6 without items when I used to get to round 20 without using any. The much higher costs for shield/barrier work into that also. Grindfest should be for grinding; being able to bash your way through monsters without much effort but for little reward (and with low costing shield I could increase my support proficiency while I was at it). Now it takes much more effort and still little reward, and can't really be used to increase proficiency anymore.
It might be the equivalent of old normal then, cause if I do it on normal now my ass gets firmly handed to me within 10 rounds or so, while on cake mobs are now doing 0-20 damage, depending on which one. Also, shield and barrier cost more because they last longer now, as well as have been tweaked to show exactly how much damage reduction your getting from them. The damage reduction from shield for me, for example, is currently 9.4 and I'm at 21.30 supportive, but as I increase my supportive it'll show how much it's increasing (it was 9.2 not too long ago). Now yea, with the way shield is now it'll take longer to get proficiency with it, but I believe it was in the 0.3.1 thread that Ten mentioned another way to gain proficiency in the future. All we can do now is wait for him to have everything balanced and ready and see how it works then.

QUOTE(Dndestroy @ Aug 20 2009, 14:36) Ten already said armor proficiency isn't fully working yet, so you're getting the bare of the bare for equipments right now. That said, switch to cake and get equipment, also, instead of wasting money on the healer do grindfests after your hourlies when you have a good amount of hp/mp left, can get in a good deal of rounds depending on your luck.
Thanks, I'll try that =) I just thought of an interesting statistic though =P From weapons, one handed, two handed and dual wielding, have interference, staff, I imagine, has no interference From armor, shield, light armor and heavy armor have interference, cloth has none So I guess that means about 75% of equipment out there has interference. The odds of me finding equipment that won't mess with my spells seem faily low, compared to a fighter being able to pick up just about anything and fight with it..

Was set up for a 22/24 dex/agi bonus, got a 10/10 one, not much is hitting me except pierce attacks and very low damage crushing. Getting hit by magic and specials pretty hard but that looks like it takes the place of all the dodging I'm doing and monsters missing now. hitting high for around 120, critting upwards of 240, hitting twice a lot with dual strike. No spell interference yet. It's pretty damn awesome.
I just need to get my hands on some really nice proc effect daggers and I'll be so happy.
oh ya... horrible rape is still pretty damn horrible.
Sold a lot of hath and spent all my cred on agi/dex gear because I've gotten nothing for like a week except for a estoc like last mon, and two junk blades with pretty much no stat except damage last wed. That was before putting some cred into scav and qm, and I'm getting less items now, and I've gotten no mana items the past 2 weeks. Really bad luck there for me.
Tons and tons and tons of second winds though. TONS! So I can't say that's good or bad.

Staves don't have interference and I believe Ethereal weapons don't either, would have to ask hito for the ethereals though. Also, cloth has high evasion, which shows up as something other than a dodge in the combat log. As for me, I'm stuck with wearing a leather helm, cloth pants and gloves, and a heavy breastplate (which I bought), so I have a fair bit of parry and evade as well as some damage reduction. That said, I love when I see 7 mobs and the log shows "parry, evade, dodge, dodge, dodge, parry, 0 damage."

QUOTE(Boniface @ Aug 20 2009, 22:31) It seems like the balance of the game right now is:
If you have good equipment, the game becomes extremely easy
If you have no equipment, you die.
If you have no equipment and want to find equipment, you can't, because you die.
Right now I have 350 credits, and grindfest kills me before I make enough money to heal myself, and I used to be able to last about 12 rounds in normal easily.
I still like alot of the changes in the update though, just wanted to put in my two cents.
I suggest you actually do something site-related to get some credits and buy some cheap equipment.

oh, that remember me one thing, can you seed shop with some "cheap equipmen"? as i remember i've seen there less then 30 armor items during all the time of it's existence. or maybe it'll be better to make some constant tab where smb can buy a "starter pack" with that "cheap equipment" This post has been edited by PandAGruel: Aug 20 2009, 23:22

I'm not so crazy about staves being the only non-interference weapon, but the +31.6% magic hit chance from my equipment is really helping to offset the base hit going down.

daggers and shields arn't that bad for mages to use but even then wands would be a nice addition they could count as a one-handed weapon that has stats similar to a staff but weaker so you could duelwield them or combine them with a shield or dagger it would add greatly to the choices mages would have

Nice I have just one piece of equipment, which is a pair of cloth gloves...obviously with a 0.0 Cloth rating (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I'll be having the fun of my life! (Good thing I got a weapon..) [Edit] Quick suggestion, since it's now pretty much better to be wearing something, is it possible to lower the costs of equipments maybe at least of the lower levels, and/or heighten the drop rates? [Edit2] Nice addition with the flashing icons when about to be done! This post has been edited by Ido013: Aug 21 2009, 00:38

I'm missing a lot too. Monsters are little too evasive now.

actually if you read the first post you will note that the base hit chance dropped by about 10% (just get yourself a good weapon and it will off set it) since i equipped my short sword i haven't missed yet

Main-hand shields? I mean, I've done it many games and it's just downright awesome... if not just plain impractical. But I'm all about the silly and it would be awesome! AWESOME!
