I'd like to see people's ratings be rejected when they consistently 1-star galleries with certain tags. (e.g. guro, rewrites, etc.)

I disagree, people's likes and dislikes seem prefectly valid. If somebody hates guro, he should be able to 1-star all guro galleries; if they love anything with footjobs, they should be able to 5-star all such galleries if they want to.

I disagree; in the examples you provided, the galleries are not rated according to their quality. If this person doesn't like guro, why do they keep visiting guro galleries? It's this kind of behaviour that makes the ratings so untrustworthy. You don't see me visiting every furry gallery to give it a bad rating. (I also rarely give any gallery five stars.)

That doesn't make sense. Rating is about quality, not genre. How would you feel if every cinema in America (or wherever you're from) gave 1-star to anything sci-fi or Anime merely because of their catagory?
A rating is about the quality of the work, not wether you like the fetish.

I see your points, but in real life it happens a lot: people may dislike sci-fi, but will see it anyway (by accident) and rate it poorly.

Voting something down (or up) simply because of it being that something is somewhat problematic; ratings are going to be significantly influenced by the "majority likes". Most people dislike guro, so it is going to be 1-starred. Most people like Bleach and Naruto, so those galleries are going to be 5-starred. I don't see how a system could be made to reliably deal with that, not unless we allow voting on multiple categories (story, artwork, fetishes, who knows what).

And we probably would have trouble even agreeing on what is "good art" vs "crappy art", or "good story" vs "bad story". Let's say I really dislike artist XY style. Is this a valid reason for me to 1-star his galleries? If I am really into character Z, can I give all galleries with her an extra star (even if some are crappily drawn)? If I am into blondes, is this a valid reason for me to give an extra star to all blonde galleries? If I like stories, can I give extra stars to galleries with deep plot, and 1-star pure sex ones (or the other way around)? Where do you draw the line?

There are 1-stars that may be somebody's personal 5-stars and vice versa. Frankly, the stars are nothing but a popularity vote, learn to live with it.

Somebody brought up the idea of being able to see your own gallery ranking instead/in addition to the average. Perhaps that is the only solution, if you think that the majority rankings don't agree with yours.

I like Panda's suggestion too.

Fat chance this can be implemented at this point but what the hell... How about distinguishing between tankoubon and magazine clippings? Also you should be able to exclude translations and rewrites from search results. I'm only interested in raw tankoubon but when I search with 'manga' parameters it's a cluttered mess of crap I'm not interested in. I love the site but these are just some suggestions I think would make it better

You can search -rewrite and -translated (the latter is not always tagged, so it is hit and miss)

Not sure if this was mentioned but i would like an option to show only my rating on galleries,
i don't like clicking on the same gallery getting bump by massive update.
it will also let me know what i haven't seen in the popular right now section.


this is how i rate not every1 will agree

raws on images 5/5
the trans 5/5 for story/2 + imagerate/2

the rating is fine the way it is, the alternative is to remove it which i assume has been done before as the old news stated it was back.
as rating are subjective.
the only last alternative to avoid rating abuse is to make an option for the more extreme/taboo content automatically off for nonmember
and another option that if you like guro/loli etc you can rate them and if not check then you can't rate those specific gallery.

e.g.
1. to be able to flag a uploader with a reason. (private, which colored flags is visible "next" to the uplaoder name)
2. give rantings like the gallery rantings. (public)

How about making toplist rewards worthwile?

I am helping in reup because I want to, not because of the rewards; and frankly I cannot imagine who would want to compete for them. Tthey are at best worth few k credits (AFAIK, the top slots get items like Bubble Gum, Soulstone, Flower Vase and Last Elixir, while the lower ones get some scrolls). All of those items can be bought in the item shop for about 4k and sold for about 1k. That is hardly significant.

Now, if the top rewards were yielding high end equipment, for example... just a thought.

Bottom line: if toplist rewards are meant to encourage people to be do something, make them worthwhile.

This is actually a good idea, but it falls into the category of something I'll end up mulling over for one or two major versions before deciding what to do with. So, maybe, some time in 2011.
