Can I have a pony?
Are we there yet?
I wasn't kicking the back of your seat.
I have to pee.
Why is the sky blue?
Can I eat my dessert before dinner?

Yes you were, I saw you. On topic, what about an option on the gallery image view page to constrain images to a certain height for less scrolling on some images?

I don't know how realistic this is but is there any way to improve the image search for the galleries? Right now it really only works when you're searching for the EXACT same image, it's not nearly as good as on these [ iqdb.org] other [ doujinshi.mugimugi.org] sites where it works even if you crop the cover of a manga from a poorly lit photograph at an angle. But again I have no idea what type of effort it takes to make an image search so I'm just curious if anythings in the works at all.

Well, the current image search is something I hacked together over a weekend. If you know an algorithm that can make a reliable lookup of some twenty million images in a fraction of a second, I'd be happy to implement it.
Mugi has what, 300k max, and while you might find what you're looking for, it produces more false positives than actual hits.

Yeah I really don't know how it works but I figured it was possible even for a site as big as E-H because iqdb does a bunch of different sites all at once and [ saucenao.com] http://saucenao.com/ does the same for pixiv.net and stuff. I think the person who runs saucenao is actually an active member of E-H and I think the person responsible for iqdb helped him, I would think that they would be happy to help you implement your own reverse image search but I really can't speak for them and I also don't know if you like letting other people work on the site like that. The sites covered by iqdb don't seem to add up to more than about two million, and that's without excluding dupes. And while I wouldn't let random people work directly with the site's code, you don't really need that for an image similarity algorithm.

How about an option to scale an image in the gallery image viewer to fit the browser window's height/a predefined pixel value? Even on a 1900x1200 screen a bunch of images have parts of them unviewable at the same time as the rest of the image. Maybe download the normal image, then have the browser restrict it's size to avoid multiple file copies? Also, what about keyboard controls for the image viewer, back, forward, etc?

I'm sorry if any of this has been mentioned before, but the OP isn't centralizing all suggestions. You can just take all that I mention as a "vote" for each of the following things. 1. Sort by popularity: Descending, but (only in addition, not instead of descending) ascending would be nice, too. 2. Sort by rating: Descending > Ascending again. 3. Enable at least the ability for users to use a Bayesian rating when sorting or filtering by rating. Six Bayesian votes of 3 out of 5 stars would be quite sufficient, in my opinion. You could make this default or not. 4. More vote filtering levels, please. 5 stars is "dubious" because it's much easier for less popular things to maintain perfect ratings. However, 4 stars only filters trash (a minority) out. Preferably you could type in "whatever" you pleased, but tenths of a star or at least half stars would be a lot better. 5. Saved search filters. It would be nice if you could either set your search filters or at least automatically save them. It could be a cookie, or just something that only logged in users could enjoy; I don't know. It would just be nice to have my preferred filters be in place by default. Thank you for this site, and for this thread! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hmmm, if I say I've not noticed the mouseover menu, because it seems to have poor visibility (small font that blends in with the background), is it an excuse? What I'd like to see is some kind of way to schedule your uploads.
Now this may not be that useful to many people at all, but it would be a nice gimmick for translators that upload their own stuff here and want it posted at the same time they make a blog entry (and those can be scheduled).
I know, would probably be a bitch to implement (and for little use anyway), but thanks for considering anyway.

Do uploaders still gain GP for uploading dupe galleries? Recently, there have been too much dupes. About 850 dupes galleries have been expunged last month and around 650 dupes galleries were expunged this month, which add up to 6,000 in 2010. Would it be possible for uploader to wait for a day to gain GP after a gallery is uploaded, as long that gallery isn't expunged for dupe or prohibited content? They still gain GP from day one. I remember MasakiLHW mentioned this before and it's not a bad idea. This post has been edited by Kir: Aug 19 2010, 23:55

Would it be possible to allow people to change their ratings. Sometimes a bad gallery comes around and you give it a low rating. Then sometime later the owner updates the gallery and it becomes a much better gallery worthy of a higher rating but becomes stuck with the earlier low rating.

If the automated dupe detection kicks in on the gallery, then no, no GP is gained. There is another mechanism that plays into this as well. No one seem to have noticed, but the front page is actually delayed by four hours for non-registered visitors. If a dupe is caught in this time, it will never reach the "unregistered" front page and is very unlikely to be put on the "popular right now" pane, thus very little GP will be awarded.

I guess you mean "...no MORE GP is gained" after being expunged. But, according to Kir's suggestion about to delay GP gaining for a day, I think the point is to make "duplicater" to gain nothing for return. In some cases, GP gained from duplicated popular galleries is more than that from fresh uploaded ones. I think it does not make any sense, not fair, as well, whatever how bad the fresh galleries are.

He means none when the auto dupe detector kicks in. This is the one that will tell you the the exact same gallery has been uploaded but for some reason some people will still publish the gallery.
