Being a Power Mage, Elementalist shoes are far more valuable to me but, they obviously need training up so, I'll keep these chain boots to use while training up the Gossamer shoes. Their Interference should be within acceptable limits.

Keep in mind that at higher levels you can get your proficiency high enough that you could probably wear a piece of chainmail for no more than 4-5 interference, which might be worth it defense-wise.

I am already there. My cake plating days have really paid off. I grinded up profs in Heavy Armor, 2-Handed, Dual-Wield, and Staff. This allows me to wear Plate Pants without Interference Failure or stat nerfing, makes my Staff more than a fancy cardboard tube, and I can even use my bleeding Longsword with full magic. Most of my mob Attack defense comes from my Plate Pants.
