I'm hoarding as much as I can get my hands on just in case if an auction house goes live. A 500 cred staff that sells for 5000 or some such... crazy! I'd rather be selfish. Is there an inventory limit? Like 20 pieces + 1 for every point in strength to promote turn over? All about Phat Loot, and Fluff and I Love Fluff! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hoarding is exactly the behaviour Tenboro wanted to discourage. Not that I don't blame any of you for holding onto gear in case the sell value goes up, it is kinda ridiculous. At the same time, its kinda unfair, too, since some people get ridiculous amounts of loot while others get zilch.

Well, I have two pieces I use and one I don't, so my hoard is tiny (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But if hoarding is to be discouraged, the shop needs to change into something that gives a more fair deal...

I've got a pair of pieces that I've been holding on to, as well. They have comparable stats to what I've got equipped, but they're closer to my level. So once Tenboro gets them working, I want to check which one is actually better for my character. The whole "your equipment will work better the closer it is to your level" thing is kinda vague and mysterious. Because Tenboro is all mystical wise man and shit with us about things he hasn't finished yet. Otherwise, I just sell them off so some other poor soul with lousy loot luck can have something (it may not equate to forum Karma, but its Karma).

There's no point selling equipment for peanuts, so I don't do it.

Considering you get equipment drops for free, getting anything at all seems pretty fair to me. Not that I've had to choose between hoarding and selling yet, since all I got so far is a shield and a pair of shoes...

I agree wholeheartedly. If they could be sold for market price, the amount of credits that would flood the system is crazy. Or, more likely if there was only an Auction, people would be getting almost zero credits. I suspect people are only buying equipment now to up proficiencies and don't really care if it is utter crap.

But in any RPG system, you can always find equipment to loot and you can get at least a third, maybe half its retail value. So I'm not sure that's a valid excuse. I also understand that it would definitely flood the system and give some lucky users credit advantages due to getting awesome loot.
As for me, I practically bought a full set of equipment - shield and armor. Except for some training, I had been pretty much saving my credits exactly for when the equipment shop opened, and now I'm close to going broke. Watch as my luck bites me in the ass and the stuff I've got ends up being complete rubbish once Tenboro gets the equipment system working.

That's why the npc pawn shop should indeed give only a fraction of the price - but it should not have the monopoly on the market. As I mentioned before, the players should have an option of selling something instantly for a fraction of the value, or of putting something for an auction and getting (hopefully) a better price from another player.
This would also encourage experimenting with equipment, since if you can expect to get your money back via auction you'll be more inclined to buy different pieces and see what works for your character the best. Now this type of experimentation is a terrible cred sink, since if you buy something you don't like - but that may be great for another player - you are still loosing 4/5 of its value (even through presumably there are players who are prepared to pay full price for it).

There's no market value before there is a market. Prices right now are decided by some random function with fairly arbitrary cost weights, so what it says something is worth is probably way off from most people's perception.
The equipment shop is mostly intended to provide basic low-quality gear to new players, and to provide a way to get rid of equipment no one would give any real money for. It largely uses the same code as the item shop and thus didn't take more than a couple of hours to make, but getting an actual Market up and running will take longer.

Bingo. I just want decent skill with my equipment so that when they do become activated, even if they are lackluster, I'll still get something out of them. Plus, the only equipment I've actually found is a cotton robe, two sets of gloves and a crude shortsword. Not exactly premium loot.

I agree with the proficiency grinding, I'm trying to get a piece of equipment for each slot for that purpose. And on the topic of selling equipment, the stuff I found were so low level that they sell for under 100C....I rather hold on to them.

Your chance of gaining proficiency doesn't go up with how many pieces you have equipped, so I would go for a piece of each type (cloth light and heavy) over, say full light, just so if I decide to go from one armor type to another after the equipment is activated my proficiency won't be 0 (and also, with my luck I'll get a mix-match set before a full set of leather like I'm planning on getting).

This is the first day I have seen weapons etc. so thats nice- but there is right now. No way to know if any weapon is better then the one I have.

That's what it looks like in IE. Use Firefox or something else when mucking around in the HV. This post has been edited by cmal: Aug 19 2009, 19:35
