Sites like boorus don't even have 1% of what we do in terms of userbase, traffic, and content.
They still receive the same strongly worded letters demanding to remove content Roscomnadzor finds inappropriate (in case of EH it's loli that failed to fjord properly for whatever reason and some borderline stuff) or else they will block the site in Russia which they do after they get ignored by pretty much everyone.

What I cannot stand is people shouting at EH because they're too afraid of shouting at Roscomnadzor. 'Tis like "do the fighting for us 'cause we are too lazy".
People have shouted at Roscomnadzor plenty when these laws were introduced, I can assure you. Repeating it here is pointless and would just be doing the thing you told us to avoid. And we aren't "shouting" at EH, we're simply wondering how come EH is probably the only site that isn't some big business that wants to continue operating in Russia and can't afford to break laws that
actually complied with their demands, if not for removing content then at least for limiting access to it. I bet the guys at Roscomnadzor are laughing right now.

'Tis also not like Roscomnadzor couldn't force a stateful firewall rule on all Russian ISPs. They are *exactly* the ones who have those resources.
More like they are a bunch of barely computer literate "internet experts" on par with an average EH (mis)tagger that compile a list of sites with images they don't like and hand it down to ISPs to do the blocking. Most ISPs aren't particularly enthusiastic about it either, so they just use the simplest option when possible.
QUOTE(gianfrix94 @ Jan 13 2017, 04:50)

The point is that Roscomnadzor didn't force a Firewall (they aren't as bad as North Korea), they only blocked at DNS level, at least i understood this. Am i wrong?
As i understood, the change has been made by Tenboro that actively banned/firewalled the Russian IP range, and i don't understand why.
Were there direct pressions from Roscomnadzor?
If not, it makes no sense.
PS: even if there were, they can't really do much at foreign hosted websites.
No, you're right, it's like that for most ISPs. In fact, last year around this time EH was already put by Roscomnadzor into the registry of the sites to be blocked by ISPs, we just changed DNS and life continued as usual. Then some time later EH changed servers, got new IPs and even that became unnecessary for a while. Now a year later this happens. (IMG:[

<tenboro> you should probably assume that if I ever do something that makes the site less accessible or just outright worse, it's not for shits and giggles
Well, that's at least something, thanks. I guess we aren't worthy to hear the full reason directly. (IMG:[
