So I'm working out (hopefully) the last few kinks in my Epson V600 setup. I've already made the move over to Vuescan, so I have better control over scan previews, white balancing, and whatnot.
An issue I'm still having that I'm not certain there's a fix for is a phenomena that occurs when doing 600dpi color scans on the outer cover of a book (seen below). I seem to be getting some sort of display artifacts from parts of the book that I believe may be caused by certain concave sections of the cover near the binding are not making 100% contact with the glass (and thus, I need a better way to press it to the glass than the included foam pad on the lid of my scanner).

Example of what I'm witnessing from my scans. Quality is good except for these artifacts that appear around the spine/where the glue binding resides. It's especially prominent here since it's a fairly thick doujin, hence why I'm seeking a solution to the eyesore it causes.
If anyone else has experience with this, just let me know. In the meantime, I'll be exploring options to evenly press the face of the cover on the scanner glass with sufficient force. Whether or not this is a characteristic of the Epson V600 itself is not known to me, since I've only used an HP all-in-one scanner prior (which had a solid plastic lid rather than the white foam padding on the Epson).
