At least in my case, I put on videos mostly for the audio. If the audio leads me to believe something exciting is on-screen, then I will temporarily stop playing HV. Otherwise, 80% of my attention goes to optimizing my HV runs. I would not watch a subbed anime for the first time if I am trying to HV, but I frequently put anime I already watched in the background.
