Yeah the second time bleed was potentially good was when pfudor was first introduced and the damage was nerfed because bleed was ticking faster but then the ticking was also fixed...
I am not sure about bleed. Maybe if you can get the right build? However its 5 hits for it to tick more dmg.
I also find my slow ninten build takes more dmg because of just getting him more :X though it does clear a bit faster.
The damage balance dynamics were pretty up/down.
I believe at bleed's peak performance, END was the most broken stat. Turtle gear was insanely powerful since someone discovered you could just go crazy on the +END and your phys/magic immune became something close to 99%
My comment about 1 tick = sufficient was for the past bleeds.
T changed the bleed mechanic for multi stack + base on dmg to dissuade people from doing the turtling strat. I believe he also simultaneously (or in short time before/after) nerfed the broken END stat. In him doing so he essentially simplified the metagame where attack was king and here we are today.
Strat dynamics were pretty interesting back then.
Speed clears = Slaughter Scythe + Power Slaughter
High difficulty long clears (primarily IWBTH and possibly PFUDOR - don't remember if it existed at the time, grindfests = Balance / Illithid / Banshee Scythe with max bleed + Protective Gear)
And going by memory I think DW was the fastest boss killer Melee had to offer. Bunko (now on the moon) used to do experiments all the time on killing IWBTH FSM in less than 10 turns or something.
I think Shade+Estoc was a pretty viable strat back then as well
Yes nowadays the ideal for a bleeder seems to be Power Slaughter if you're maximizing damage... But the question is whether you'll be able to balance survivability with that emphasis on damage since bleed is simply an extension of damage now. Furthermore, you'd question whether it's better to just use an estoc.
Think I kinda recall that PFUDOR glitch about the ticking speed... Yeah that was weird...
