QUOTE(RoadShoe @ Jul 30 2017, 15:15) Google and Facebook? I mean I understand the ramifications of IT, but think a little more broadband.
Other major U.S corporations that are world wide... Two immediately come to mind.. General Electric and Caterpillar. These guys run Brilliant Factory setups that are highly dependent on IT. And they scream for overseas IT people who are multi-lingual. Nobody checks them out because they aren't IT concentric... which is why they scream for IT personnel.
I'm not even thinking about worldwide "industrial" corporations in other countries. Motorcycle guys like Ducati? How about BMW? Seimens? Saint Gobain??
Facebook.... pfft!! a couple of buildings filled with servers. These other major corporations have much much more.
Thanks for the advice. I just changed from physics to IT so there's a lot I don't know about the field. Never thought that I would be seeking career guidance from a hentai forum.

(IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) So true on advice from a Hentai site. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) While I'm on a roll, think engineer if your area of interest is available where you are. You want that word engineer somewhere in your under-graduate, to give weight to the MBA when you go masters program. If you happen to end up industrial... which I highly recommend, that MBA after engineering under-graduate opens every single door in the industrial world. An MBA with a non engineering Baccalaureate is passed on nearly every single time. A few seeds planted now.......

QUOTE(LOL50015 @ Jul 30 2017, 14:21) Oh, I can do that. I'm studying IT, so probably start out as junior developer and then work my way up to project manager. Then how should I present my internship as? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Just make it sound more amazing than it really is, while it probably isn't that relevant. Point out how you have been able to handle responsibilities (or anything even remotely looking like this) and reach results. If one doesn't have real experience, one has to show that he does can meet a company's expectations after a lit a bit of adapting himself. THAT is the real deal: experience or great potential, both are valuable and if you don't have neither of them, you're screwed. Your interlocutors are people who will have to trust you, so show them that they do can entrust you with something. That's why you have to be convincing regarding that "you will be able to handle it" without giving out too much of a "I take things lightly". Even if the recruiters don't value internships much, it's up to you to value it nonetheless, even if it comes to exaggerate things. You got nothing to lose anyway. PS: I am an indutrial engineer and have never been able to get a spot throughout 3 years of employment research. Just saying. This post has been edited by decondelite: Jul 30 2017, 16:55

QUOTE(LOL50015 @ Jul 30 2017, 04:15) Since lots of you guys seem to be adults of working age, any advice for someone about to graduate from uni?
Do something you like to do, else you'll be miserable. Make sure you're good at what you're doing, then you'll get promoted, have good references, etc. You may love art, but if you can't make a living doing art.. Don't worry much if your diploma doesn't match what you end up doing. You will be retooling your skills set all your life. This is particularly true if you wish to do cutting edge tech.

This is such a true statement. So true, it enters the phenomenal realm. If a person realizes this young enough, the world belongs to them. Edit: But always go engineering. A Documented Engineer can be trusted to do just about anything. Hell... they can sell cookies. A Cookie Salesman however, can not flip to engineering. Work hard on the seeds now. It's probably the only pack of them you'll ever get. (Crawls off soap box... goes back to futile IW tasks) This post has been edited by RoadShoe: Jul 30 2017, 18:45

Any tips on how to make money by yourself? Studies won't let me take any full-time job and part-time time jobs are scarce and barely paid here, something I can do 3-4 hours a day on pc?

Yes. Get a hold of employment services in your area. Temp agencies. One of them will eventually set you up with a help desk from your house.

Better find a program that alternates between real job and class. You're not paid much, but at least you get a degree in the end without paying anything, and you earn just enough to live. Having a part-time job during studies is a complete bullshit that only exists in american comedies and in hentai.

There's the problem, I don't think there's that kind of jobs around, I already tried some time ago to get any job, and there's so much demand, applying to a kfc offer had over 2000 postulants in 2-3 weeks, heck, even the other day, our president stated we're in a bit of a economic crisis. that's why i was asking for something to do online, online customer service, handling, notifying complaints and the like. I wanted something that doesn't demand too much time neither that it pays much, at least get to eat 3 meals a day.

Tip: Read Tim Ferris, 4hr work week. You know IT, so I suggest you build an app. Any app, just to learn how. And then start a website, any website, just to learn how to do on-line marketing (trip-wires, landing pages), for instance a shop and whenever someone wants to buy you say sorry out of stock but give me your e-mail for when the product is ready. Then find a good idea, build the killer app and sell to Facebook. And next to that you can always be a junior slave developer and work yourself up to project slave manager.

QUOTE(RoadShoe @ Jul 30 2017, 05:50) The U.S. government will always have the reputation of not supporting their veterans. The reason being, all the politicians running for office say we don't take care of veterans, and they will personally make it right. They will find isolated incidents where something went wrong, and milk them to oblivion.
That's how we end up with these political buffoons we get in office over here. (And it's getting worse)
The United States is generous with their veterans, and always have been. Especially the disabled... they will take care of them for life.
VA (Veteran's Administration) hospitals however have zero bedside manner. Most people working in them are very rude. But..... there are so many scammers in the system, they feel jaded, and eventually think everyone is scamming.
This is pretty much it. Couldn't really have said it much better myself. BTW, if I may ask, what branch? I was a zoomie, 6Y2M. Partly political, partly medical reasons for denied re-enlistment. I have a ton of other things I could take advantage of, but really, I sometimes feel I get too much already. I'm... rather stubborn about medical treatment, so I can't speak to the bedside manner of the VA, but I've heard mine is one of the better ones.

Navy. I'm shying away from saying rating/occupation. It narrows things down too much. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Reminds me of my favorite military joke: Army: Man.... this sucks. Marines: I love how much this sucks!! Navy: I bet it really sucks out there. Air Force: Man... cable here sucks.

And the best temp quarters that I've ever stayed in. The one in Abilene... (No, I'm nowhere near there. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif), but been there a zillion times.) Anyway, the one I've stayed in at Abilene had a bedroom on one side, a huge living area in the middle with a full kitchen, and a bedroom on the other side of it, both with full baths. And I'm one person staying 2 days at a time!! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Air Force lives good!! Naval bases, you're looking at cinder-block on at least one wall, and it's painted slime green. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

(IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) BMT was BMT, thats basically the same for everybody but the marines. They somehow have it worse. TS I got a dorm that I shared with 0 or 1 other person. First station I had my own room as an E3, basically 400SF with a shared full bath and kitchen, but locking doors for our own rooms. And these were the 'old, crappy' dorms. The new one were 4 rooms with a shared common kitchen/living room. Each room had its own full bath, BTW. my only crappy accommodations was Afghanistan, and even then, it wasn't all that bad since I was working with a CE squadron and we got basically free use of materials to turn our 17 bunk tent into whatever we wanted. It was nicer than some of the officers quarters when we were done ^.^ I miss Afghanistan sometimes...

Yeah, i have no idea where that even could be. Lets see RNJesus says 31, and damned why dont have those damned states numbers. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Okay, okay, i will just with the order of population, that would be Louisiana, hm weird i allways thought that would be called Lusitania and was sunk by a german submarine. Well i guess they couldnt find a replacement with the same name and Louisiana was all the letting agency could come up with. So, where was i? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) A right, so Abilene in Louisiana, never been there before, is it nice there?
