QUOTE(as013 @ Jul 29 2017, 16:27) I'm quite shocked to see 40k being the norm at your place. Rarely see anyone above 3000/month here in Asia
40k is per year. I live in a military/college town.

1400€/month here, while being full-time. Who says better?

Just complete your studies without droping out and backlogs. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My bro (also in Asia), who earns the most among all people I know that are currently under 30, has an annual income of 65k so I'm terrified to see people who are still around that age and can earn even more. Most graduates I know are around 35k. I hope I get at least that much after graduation, else I would be better off tutoring students or being a high school teacher.

Don't think even for one second that employers will believe that you have any actual competence anywhere because you have a degree. When you're experienceless, don't even think for one second either that an internship will count as actual experience, and your only actual weapon will be your personality and ability to convince. Final word: on your CV, be the frog that wants to make itself bigger than the beef.

I'm studying IT, so probably start out as junior developer and then work my way up to project manager. Then how should I present my internship as? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) This post has been edited by LOL50015: Jul 30 2017, 14:21

QUOTE(SidZBear @ Jul 29 2017, 12:47) >.>
If this pisses people off, I will remove. All numbers in USD.
I receive disability from injuries received while serving in my country's (United states) military. along with all medical services, prescriptions, etc paid for 100%. This includes new injuries, accidents, and illnesses, including optional treatments. Plus I receive 1470/month, tax exempt, adjusted yearly for the cost of living.
I am self employed, as literally nowhere would hire me after separating from service. This year I'm averaging around 8,000/month in revenue. Being self employed, I get to write off ALOT of expenses. I have an assistant whom I have paid around 9,000 so far this year. In short, I'm making more this year than I did last year.
Last year, I have ~75,000 in revenue, but wrote off 50,000 in expenses. My actual expenses were closer 15,000. Huzzah US tax code.
So, in my pocket, I put around 77,000 last year and paid ~4700 in taxes. This year will probably be closer to 95,000 in my pocket and 10,000 in taxes.
Also, my mortgage is less than 700/month.
Wow... Usually people on the inner-webs either exaggerate a little or low ball a little. At my site, one of my extra "have that guy do its" is I am responsible for any IT work needed, and I outsource every single bit of it. We have zero onsite IT. So I'm like fully aware of the cost in this area. I have a favorite, and he usually walks in on his cell saying "OK... what??" because most of our corporate IT is outsourced to India. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) And... I'm retired U.S. Military, so very aware of disability percentages, benefits, and payments. Dude.... you win the award for being the most honest person on the inner-webs. Edit: oops... and I being not that honest on the inner-webs, I gave away my true age.. Not wanting to start a flame, but i heard that someone whined about us government not supporting veterans enough. I don't know which kind of situation we're speaking about in this case (nor I want to say it), but just as a generic question - is it true or just propaganda?

An internship at the right company can get you hired easily by that same company. Just make sure you "Perform" and don't sit around making coffee... It's a short period.. Perform. Always try to intern at a major corporation. Shy away from mom and pop shops. Internships... especially at good companies is a godsend.

The U.S. government will always have the reputation of not supporting their veterans. The reason being, all the politicians running for office say we don't take care of veterans, and they will personally make it right. They will find isolated incidents where something went wrong, and milk them to oblivion. That's how we end up with these political buffoons we get in office over here. (And it's getting worse) The United States is generous with their veterans, and always have been. Especially the disabled... they will take care of them for life. VA (Veteran's Administration) hospitals however have zero bedside manner. Most people working in them are very rude. But..... there are so many scammers in the system, they feel jaded, and eventually think everyone is scamming.

Big stuff like Google or Facebook, as I heard from my seniors, require extreme talents or connection from former interns. Fortunately, one (mid-sized maybe) company reached out to me since I was in high school so I guess I won't have much difficulty finding internship for the time being. BTW, no one from Asia? Are all Asian hentai closet perverts?

Google and Facebook? I mean I understand the ramifications of IT, but think a little more broadband. Other major U.S corporations that are world wide... Two immediately come to mind.. General Electric and Caterpillar. These guys run Brilliant Factory setups that are highly dependent on IT. And they scream for overseas IT people who are multi-lingual. Nobody checks them out because they aren't IT concentric... which is why they scream for IT personnel. I'm not even thinking about worldwide "industrial" corporations in other countries. Motorcycle guys like Ducati? How about BMW? Seimens? Saint Gobain?? Facebook.... pfft!! a couple of buildings filled with servers. These other major corporations have much much more. Absolutely. Excellent point! Straight from wiki... Read this!! General Electric (GE) is an American multinational conglomerate corporation incorporated in New York[6] and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.[2] As of 2016, the company operates through the following segments: Aviation, Current, Digital, Energy Connections, Global Research, Healthcare, Lighting, Oil and Gas, Power, Renewable Energy, Transportation, and Capital which cater to the needs of Financial services, Medical devices, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, Software Development and Engineering industries.[7] As of 2017, General Electric has the most patent assignments of all US-based corporations.[8] Think about it. You get in the door with these guys, and you're good, and it becomes "Where do I want to work, and in which field would I enjoy most?" All under the same umbrella.
