Well, the problem is Overpower even when maxed isn't all that great (and not to mention, costly), and Overwhelming strike is limited to 1H.

Could be why 1H/mage is so popular tbh. 1H is the only style that offers any decent counter-parry (as well as the stun counter-strike, which also disable avoidance), and mage can get proficiency to counter resist.

I don't think there's any problem with how dominant 1H is for physical playstyle, but to have other styles gated by parrying isn't fun.

Getting parried sucks, the higher monster PL goes the more it becomes an issue.
That's not true about 1h though, anything that can stun on regular basis bypasses parry. Having +20% counter on offhand helps a lot, though it is quite a low cap.

Ouch. You're quite mistaken here.

Because Parry is so much of an issue at higher level (and even more at PFUDOR), it makes Overpower the best potency, by far, for everything that isn't a 1H build. Even for 1H, it is debatable if one should go for Overpower instead of Fatality, because you don't always have Overwhelming strikes and monsters are not always stunned. Given how little Fatality really increases your damage, especially when combined with (savage) power armor.

You don't seem to understand the purpose of 1H mage either. Who cares about a 1H mage's counter-parry? You spend your time spamming spells. The shield and weapon are only here to give you some block+parry+counter attacks, but the only actual, physical attack you'll do besides your spells, is OFC. And no, that style isn't popular.
Bonus: stun doesn't bypass resist mechanics.

Overall, the actual, real issue with 1H, is the fact that it has way too many buffs: counter-attacks, overwhelming strikes, overcharge on counter-parry. I wouldn't be against the straight removal of overwhelming strikes for my part. ... and to give 2H overcharge on every monster that got domino'ed.

As long as the typical advice for endgame is "go mage!", 1h (and other physical styles) should rather get more buffs instead of less.

It's a bit more elaborate than that. Mage is the best way if you have a lot of income. Income that requires things that the site benefits from, like bounty hunting, running H@H or donating. It's good for this site that people desire to go mage, because that stimulates them contributing. If you just play, 1h is far superior because you can actually achieve some progress without lots of credits.

Not everything, because if 10bo would make 1H a bad style, people would want to change their equipment and someone who owns an auction would make a shit-tone of credits for a while. And you have to admit, that is a really good reason to nerf 1H. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif)

No Uncle. He has to improve all styles, but at different levels.

The improvements should follow this order: 2H >>> DW >> 1H >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mage (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Well it's true that niten abilities are tied to dw and 2h profs but I mean buffing the style in a more specific way tied only to that style, like giving it offhand parry bonus, improving Skyward Sword or adding a new and more powerful skill idk. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

My point isn't that it's worse than the alternatives, it's that even when maxed out, 20% isn't great if I understood it correctly.

Giving OC on domino is broken. That'd give it way too many OC, and 2H OC skill is tiers above 1H.

Quick edit on the debate: fix parrying and see how things sort out. That'd be a direct huge buff to melee without usurping mage's supremacy.

I have no qualms with 1H and mage being META, and better than everything else. Just wanting to make other styles more viable.

a "fair and balanced" way to buff melee styles would be to introduce a new potency: "Generator: generate 1% additional overcharge per hit per level". at level 3-4 it would give all melee styles access to perma-stance, which wouldn't just be a speed-up but also a major convenience, and 1H would still stand out as having innate perma-stance and the most use of OFC with the new potency

This maybe 2 years ago.

Right now you can make a decent mage with pretty much nothing, and with a couple of millions of forging (just to get the phases lv 5) you're set to outperform 1h largely...look at how many lower level mages are around, and most aren't even rich nor paid much for their equipments, and they still put grindfest and dwd numbers I can dream of with my 40m+ worth 1h set (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Just see how ""bad slot"" 70-75% charged prof pieces go for 200k even though there's not much of a difference with a better slot, except for a negligible edb loss, due to using a prof piece in a higher slot and having a phase in the lower slot, with the add that to get the same prof factor with less forging (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif)

For now we got a bunch for the one of the right, and nerfs for the ones on the left at high levels.

Noice. But ain't gonna happen since 10b explicitly said "only 1H is intended to get the permastance effect"

Translation: "only 1H is to be under the bullshit ridiculous x2 damage on at all times". If that's the case, then other styles should make up with (way) higher damage output, which isn't really the case.

I think people make a bigger deal out of perma-stance than it needs to be. At lower level 1H with shadow veil on, I didn't always get perma-stance at the beginning of arenas, and I didn't care because it was still ages between toggling spirit stance, which would probably only need to be done once at most. Losing one turn is not the end of the world.

Even at my current level in DwD, if I play in the Vital Strike style, I might not have perma-stance, and have to toggle spirit stance on fairly often, and even off once in a while. But it's still (barely) worth it compared to plain attacking.

I haven't played every style recently but I've played DW enough to know you can do well by toggling spirit stance and doing Frenzied Blows, or toggling spirit stance and attacking regular, which lasts a respectably long time.

DW is competitive as it is, and I'm satisified with it. Frenzied Blows (since 0.85 patch) is amazing with or without spirit stance. Also DW partially compensates for not having permanent spirit stance by having far higher crit chance and offhand strike (1.5x damage). I don't know whether the strongest DW or 1H players have more attack base damage.

Well, they kinda have higher base damage output. But lower than 2x 1H damage.
If they were higher than that, it would've been unfair for 1H.
Since the other styles would basically overkill in their short uses of the Spirit Stance.

Other styles have more vulnerability due to 1H using shields, the healing and parrying kills spirit stance way too quick imo. SS barely do me any good as 2H, and I strictly use it in SG arenas to clear the earlier rounds. OC skills are much more beneficial.

Still, the issue I'd say is that the game have a lot of quirks that I'd classify as bad design

So on today I found out: Not having heartseeker on is making my early round clears earlier. Before, fighting <= 5 enemies was extremely annoying, then the game gets much easier at 6 and 7, and decline again. Seems like not having HS lowers my damage so I don't kill things too quickly (and abuse the 10 turns stun) to build back OC.

Yep, having more damage makes the game harder. Because mechanic!

- Seriously, I wish this can get fixed somehow >.>
