Exactly. I once said I would never touch mage and slaughter. Now I have a decent mage build and almost fully forged slaughter.

you need lots of credits, that's all. But as you joined 12 yrs ago, maybe you have some very valuable obsolete equips that you could sell in auction?

To reject the statement that wind/elec are stronger than dark, I did some calculations regarding the EDB difference from gears. Turn out dark imp has more EDB than elementals does.

At both 100% edb roll, fully forged, a dark willow has approximately 37.8 more Edb than a shocking/temp willow does.
As for cloth, we assume a dark mage uses a cotton robe(cap is ideal if one has enough prof. Gloves is theoretically possible, but too hard to achieve), while elementals use cotton shoes.

If dark uses a cotton robe:
1.2-0.8=0.4.
0.4*fully forged, fully rolled cap(1.0)=approximately 26.9.

If dark uses a cotton cap:
1.0-0.8=0.2
0.2*cap=approximately 13.4

Conclusion: Dark has more damage than elementals do

37.8-26.9=10.9,
or 37.8-13.4=24.4

without considering the effect from profs,
(I mean mitigation reduction and counter-resist. I suppose dark has more counter-resist while elementals would have more mitigation due to the fact they can easily reach beyond 0.68. They get more mitigations when beyond 0.68 prof factor. Just a guess, no calculations)

Dark has more damage. If both enough survival, dark mages should be faster than elementalists.

I'm not good at data collection and math. I ppl missed something important. But this should give me confidence to continue my dark flame master path

Dark with 0.8 prof factor (more or less dark with robe to reach 0.8 needs similar base prof than willow elemental with shoes) has 6 additional CR compared to 0.68 elemental.
This means around 1.8% more damage.
On the other hand 0.68 elemental has 68 mitigation while dark with 0.8 doesn't even reach 61 (7% less mitigation reduction).
To nearly reach 68 dark needs 0.9 prof factor, which either needs ridiculous base prof or 2 clothes.
Since monster dark mitigation is, on average, lower than elemental the sweet spot is probably lower than 68 so robe it's still probably the best cloth setup if you want to go the imperil way.

Dark also has ripened soul, which further increases the damage dealt (never really calculated the impact, would be really curious to see tests on it).

Very useful, and accurate information (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Thanks. I was planning to go cotton robe already, but it seems I don't have the budget to outbid Kadokura in this week's auction. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)
10m, already the highest historical bid on dark robe so far.

Still cheap. 15m+ I would value it. But I stick with my peerless not-charged

You should go take a look at some historical bids for comparison. There was never any dark robe that was over 10m. Even better ones were only 6m and 7m. And yeah, I'm poor.

yes, but in the old meta without 550+ base proficiency players (like me), a robe would have sucked. Now, my peerless will give me 0.93 prof factor at 600 base proficiency - which would get close to non-imperil play with 4 phases!

You guys are forgetting that Imperil adds -40% elemental mitigation, whil it is only -25% for Dark.

We accounted for that, otherwise Dark would be stupidly stronger (better EDB, less mitigations and ripened soul).
0.8 dark vs 0.68 elemental loses a bit more than 7 mitigation, which should make both styles nearly equally effective, with elemental being safer (less cast time) and cheaper (cheaper equipments, less mana cost).
