Use the style you like the more. You can sell your armor and buy better weapons or light armor or save the money for later.
If you don't care about the style, then yes, try 1H. Play with your axe for the time being, there's no need to rush. You can search in decondelite's shop or save money for future auctions.
Also, power armor at your level isn't that common. Look for some magnificent plate
