yes, destruction is like black dresses - it goes with everything. but slot name and prefix has to match. otherwise, it's a piece of wood.

for example, Tempestuous/Shocking/Demonic Willow of Destruction is really good - since Willow naturally has Wind/Elec/Dark EDB.
Fiery/Arctic/Tempestuous/Shocking Redwood of Destruction are good too - since Redwood naturally has Fire/Cold/Wind/Elec EDB.

for forceshield is hard to get right rolls plus block must be good

some hopeless guy told me the following:

- Arctic + Niflheim/Destruction/Elementalist
- Fiery + Surtr/Destruction/Elementalist
- Shocking + Mjolnir/Destruction/Elementalist
- Tempestuous + Freyr/Destruction/Elementalist
- Demonic + Fenrir/Destruction/Demon-Fiend
- Hallowed + Heimdall/Destruction/Heaven-Sent

Plus the staff should be the right one for the needed proficiencies and edb, so:
- Katalox for Holy/Dark
- Oak for Holy
- Willow for Dark/Elec/Wind
- Redwood for Elec/Wind/Fire/Cold

Focus suffix sometimes can be used for starting mages too, but it's mostly bad, unless you have a peerless.

Earth Walker, Curse Weaver are trash.

All the other non matching are trash.

I know at least one higher-up uses a Focus staff too, arialinnoc (Peerless Demonic Willow of Focus).
So that could get added too at the end of the list, as an option.

i guess it's more because it was the best staff he had available. you can use a sub-optimal in case it's a selfdrop of yours and/or cannot be arsed to find/purchase a better one. if you really need firepower, it's not like Demonic Willow of Focus ranks quite high in a wishlist...

He said he would upgrade only if a PDWD pops up.

uh, i would've done the same as well. because:
1. bragging rights, lol.
2. maybe his build revolves around crits, rather than MDB.
3. i don't think the difference is so big afterall. and a PDWD would be overkill, i guess. better selling the LDWDs and using the profit to upgrade the Peerless.

obviously, only my two cents. you should ask him.

Yep, I asked about that a couple of months ago.
Seems strange there is only a little difference between PDWF and LDWD but whatever, with Focus you don't really need to keep track of potions so definitely not that bad if the alternative is correct suffix with only average rolls.
