What's funny is that as far as things go, I'm actually perfectly right in that statement.

When I wanted to switch to dark mage, I had the choice between buying shitloads of ability points to make both sets fitting in the same persona, buying a new persona slot, and wasting soul fragments in ability resets every time I wanted to switch between both. I chose the ability points way, and it costed me an arm and a leg.
