You need to buy your first aura slot in the HV ability panel. It's a level 1 skill. Look on the far right.

To an extent, but I think my build and the option for items helps me in HV. Never lost before round 3 on Normal in the Grindfest, no matter how many rapetastic monsters spawn (and that's without items).
