> [Removal] H@H Proxy, For people who run H@H

(This is only for people who actually run H@H.)

The H@H proxy functionality was originally added so that people could help boost their H@H cache by browsing the site. With the addition of static ranges, this is now largely irrelevant, and using it as a proxy may to some extent be detrimental rather than helpful if your cache is close to full.

Furthermore, with the new resampling system, the proxy will in many cases be bypassed since it can't support not-yet-created files of an unknown fileid.

As such, it's a feature I'm considering removing.

What I would like to know is if there are a lot of people using H@H for the actual proxying functionality. Or rather, if you would be using it knowing that it no longer helps your utilization.

Only way I use it is on my own galleries so that browsing them later is faster.

I still use it for the instant load speed, dont want to wait 0.5 second when I am scrolling in multi page viewer (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)

I used to use it, but it was more of a pain than it was worth in the first place. I wouldn't miss it.

I don't use the H@H proxy.

This sounds reasonable, but
- downloading and viewing the archive costs just as much and makes for faster viewing
- maybe MPV could be tuned to pre-load more images when on faster connections instead?

I don't use the proxy to fill cache, but I do use it to increase load speed.

The only annoyance with the proxy is the auto-ignore threshold.

For example, I can scroll down quickly to the middle of the gallery using normal MPV.
Doing the same with a H@H proxy would lock me out for 60 seconds.

Ideally, I would like to still have proxy functionality and have the auto-ignore limit removed.
Any removal of filling cache is fine too.

I don't use it either; I don't necessarily know what I have in my cache anyways.

I used it for the speed boost as well.

When I wanted actual proxying functionality, it made more sense to proxy *all* my traffic via SSH tunnel/VPN, rather than just the H@H image requests.

I've always used the proxy because it's faster and more reliable.

I browse through galleries to see if they interest me and download archives for galleries I like. It's nice when images load instantly and never fail to load.

Turning off h@h image loading in settings should give the same performance in theory but I've never tested it.

I use the proxy on my local host as it allows you to browse the e-hentai website without running into fjords.

As has already been said, I sometimes use it to get around shit speed from my home ISP to varying other H@H clients. I would prefer you leave it in.

I only use it during rush hours when the H@H proxies that are supposed to send me the pictures can't handle the load. I won't mind if it's removed.

Only really used it for filling up caches.

For about half a year i just use a script that clicks "Click here if the image fails loading" when i encounter a H@H at a snails pace. (suggestion: add an out of the way hotkey for that function? i use Insert (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif))
I don't use MPV, so no opinion there (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Wasn't it useful for some kind of edge case where an older H@H client got its cache nuked, so you had to manually use the proxy to build it back up or it would be too slow?

*shrugs*

I haven't ever really used the proxy.

I use it for cache purposes but I don't really need it. At least, if I were to choose between this and hathdl downloaded, I really choose and prefer the downloader. This one is just like a tiny speed bonus to me.

If it speeds up loading times than I have no issue here.
