Hi! Long time no see!

I'm Imari, I used to translate stuff for Little White Butterflies, now I just translate stuff for me. I put scripts up on my blog so that kind and energetic souls can edit the text in themselves if they feel so inclined.

Recently I've been translating rather more than my current group of kind and energetic souls can handle, so I'm posting here as well to see if I can meet more people who would like to join in.

My tastes tend towards stuff that a lot of people find, for want of a better word, icky. If it's not your thing, that's fine.

Description:

I find that kanji puns rarely work in English in any fashion whatsoever. For example, in this story the word for “to welcome” is written in a certain way, but the first kanji is replaced with one that sounds the same but means “wickedness”, and is used in the phrase “gang rape”. Which is appropriate, given the story, and very cute. But how the fuck does one cram all that into a suitably short English phrase?

So I didn’t bother. But you can still enjoy the gang rape. Puns are hardly essential to the process. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Looking forward to seeing these finished. Though the lack of editors is also a problem around here, a lot of people (me included) are just sitting on unedited material currently.

Frankly, it's always a problem. That's been the case for most groups ever since I can remember. Editors also burn out way, way faster than translators.

The honest truth is that once you get decent at translating it takes maybe a couple hours to crank out twenty pages. It's just not that hard. If you're editing, it'd have to be incredibly simple to do a decent job in a couple of hours. Simple bubble fills only, basically, and you'd still need all the macros and stuff to make it fast.

Sometimes I edit a little myself, because it is kind of fun and it's good to know what editors do. I used to edit everything, before I decided I enjoyed translating more. It's not so much that it's hard, but it is time consuming and if you don't know the right technique then it is hard.

If there are any people out there that think they would like to have a go at editing but don't know how to get started, I'm happy to walk you through it. You have to give enough of a shit to actually have a go, but I can show you the shortcuts so you don't waste ten hours of your life doing something that should have taken one.

Yeah the truth is editing is more often a pain in the neck with doujins that require insane amount of cleaning and redrawing. So it's no wonder that editors find themselves burned out more frequently than translators do. Off topic: Another problem with editing, is that the more effort and time it takes to edit a work, the higher the chances that you end up hating that work. It basically becomes a sacrifice.

But let's put it this way. If you've got something that you would personally edit, and you think it falls somewhere near my wheelhouse then feel free to ask. I have no problems saying no. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) On the other hand, if it happens to be in my frankly enormous To-Do folder (just checked, 591 items) or is something that should have been in there, then I have no problem bumping it to the front of the list.

If it's an artist that I've translated before, either as SNP or LWB then the chances are decent. A lot of what I enjoy is based on art style, although there are obvious exceptions.

I translate stuff that I enjoy, but enjoyment is increased by doing something that someone else will enjoy as well. The offer extends to everyone, if you've got something that you would edit and you think I'd like, go ahead and ask.

I've heard that. It's never been the case for me, the few things that I've spend significant time editing I remain somewhat proud of, even though they suck. But yeah, some people seem to have a time limit per project after which they just start to hate it.

Pure yaoi I'm unlikely to do, it doesn't really float my boat.

Futa/shemale depends largely on the rest of the story/art. I've got nothing against it, but I've got no real passion for it either. The second half of Pandra that I translated was a good example, I wasn't translating it for the specific fetishes in there, I was translating for the plotline which was awesome.

It's got a few things against it, primarily that even at ~150 pages it's fucking enormous. It's not going to displace my current projects. The new Comic MATE just came out so I've got another Oyster and the next chapter of my Shinjima Saki story. And I'm working on more Yojouhan Shoubo (which is also a long story...in two parts...guess which one).

But I'll put it near the top of the list. When I get a chance I may knock out a first section of it, 20 or 30 pages or wherever the story breaks neatly. Hopefully about that time you won't be so busy, and we can go from there. Bit by bit will be the way I think for something that size. Once something is started it's easy to keep it going. Mostly. This is an interesting little number that caught my eye. Little girl has her mother killed and ends up in an orphanage. This orphanage appears to hire it’s little girls out to dirty old men to use for exactly what you’d think they would use them for.

We have our heroine passing out losing her virginity, and one of the longer term residents taking on the rest of the room full of guys. And she’s pregnant too, although nobody knows by whom.

Best thing: the story is to be continued. I’m interested to see where this one goes.
