You know that's actually a really fucking insulting comment. Do you know how much other shit the military does? We go out and do community service all the time. Hell, we can't even get good scores on our performance reviews without having volunteer work. We also go to countries for natural disaster aid to pass out food, build shelters and provide some form of law if things like looting and rape start running rampant. We also go into countries dealing with their own problems with violence and we train their military and police forces in tactics of how to deal with it.

Killing is something you always have to have in the back of your mind. We don't want to do it but if the mission calls for it then we will. I know I never directly killed anyone but I know I cut the flight orders that sent the plane out the door to kill people, so I take responsibility in being part of that. But I also helped organize a carnival for the children of deployed or deceased parents. I gave blood at every single blood drive that came my way. I was out cutting tree trunks and hauling trash after Hurricane Ivan out in the community.

So if all you want to do is think of us as a killers you can kindly go fuck yourself.

It's just really hard having to deal with the way people see the military. I think the problem comes in just blind hatred or a distrust of American foreign policy. Whether you agree with the fact we're at war or whether you agree with the politics within this country doesn't mean you should judge the people that inhabit it. The people (military included) don't like war and we don't like the fact that we have to go and kill. But for better or worse, when we signed that dotted line we said we trust our country to use our lives the way it needs to in pursuit of freedom. Whether corruption or misinformation put our lives on the line for the wrong reasons remains to be seen.

Not everybody who goes to a warzone agrees with this war. Personally I think there were a lot of missteps taken and most people would agree with that. But it was my duty to do what I needed to and that was all there was to it.

And why do you think I aim to be a politician? I hate corruption. I hate bad policy. I hate the lives of men and women to be taken lightly. I know that a lot of world is going to continue to hate us, whether it's justified or not. Some people just need another country to blame their woes on. Even while the economy sucks we're still a wasteful bunch and that pisses a lot of people off. But change can only come through baby steps.

I hope you make it some day Cpt, it seems there are far too few honest politicians around anymore. And certainly the ones at the top and the famous ones appear fairly corrupt...

Any time I get a guy in uniform, or who even looks military in my store/s, I always do my best to help them out and give them a discount. I know not every military member gives it their all, but I like to think they do. I really miss the lifestyle too, sigh....you know the maximum enlistment age for US Army atm is 41?

So some people are good at avoiding violence and conflicts and leave peacefully all their life, and others let themselves get maneuvered between enemy armies, usually as a soldier for one side, voluntarily - and are happy about it, think they earned something, fought for something.

Every country, every nation in the world will someday be gone, changed without recognition or extinct. Conflicts, as you said, will always arise, and you being there, fired upon, is nothing else but sad result of your decisions. You have just so many days to live, up to 80-100 years, and you can work on getting the most out of them, or fight for honor, freedom, fatherland, do stupid dares. What amuses me is that you think your choices were right, and that you risked your life for something important.
