if you want to invest that much time in grinding... well, why not? its not like, as you mentioned, you generally get anything worthwhile out of it, and you gain exp 2x faster and credits 4x faster on normal.

i just cake when i'm multitasking. which is often, admittedly, but i don't really see anything wrong with how it works now.

Update: It works with a Staff too. I don't mean using magic on the monsters, just bashing them over the head with it and relying on Ether Theft to steal enough mana to pay for Cure. When I got bored with just hitting things I tried a little experiment: I cast Cure repeatedly to get my MP down to zero. 9 rounds later, I was full up again. That certainly beats using The Dominotrix, which for most of the time was balanced pretty evenly between losing and gaining MP, what with Second Winds and so on.

So am I going to use the staff from now on? Answer: no. The problem is, it takes so damn long to kill things with it. Bash repeatedly = 4 or 5 hits per monster. Slash and allow to bleed = about a third of that. It would take me a week just to equal my existing record...

I can't beat legendaries yet, but I can do this.

So was it worth it? What did I get out of it, apart from the obvious EXP and C gains? A lot of items (which sold for another 21K), but the only thing out of the ordinary was one Scroll of the Gods. No artifacts. 7 pieces of equipment, 6 of which I sold, one I kept but probably won't use. No useful proficiency gains apart from Curative. I did get two Tokens of Blood... I think. I've never yet actually noticed one dropping, but there they are in my inventory, so...

Anyway, although I'm happy to exploit the system for free credits while I can, I still say Cakefest is completely broken. Maybe Tenboro doesn't care, but I really think something should be done about it. Like increasing the difficulty level every 25 rounds starting at round 50, or something like that. And if you can grind indefinitely on Battletoads, well, good luck to you.

He should increase the cap and at the same time increase difficulty. Seems stupid to increase difficulty with no eggnog (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) should only be for cake though normal and above is good as it is.

Maybe instead of increasing the difficulty, cut back on the amount of 2nd winds you get in a grindfest on cake. It's really the 2nd winds that keep me alive sometimes, the difficulty seems just about right for me.

it might take a while, but a good ether theft staff will get you to round 10,000 if you really wanted to sit there for like 200 hours.

And just why would you want to cut down easily the best grinding state? True enough, given the right equipment, one can cakegrind indefinitely, but I think it is more than counters by immense boredom one will feel from that attempt.

If you personally want something more exciting / challenging / difficult, you can always (try to) go through Grindfest on Battletoads.

But I almost feel like I cheated. I brought 2 shield scrolls, 5 superior mana draughts and 5 godly mana draughts. Used everything. Had at least 15 MP 2nd winds. I can't imagine how out of MP and totally fucked I would've been if I hadn't got those 2nd winds. I got a mana elixir for the clear bonus - I think HV was trying to make a point. Next time I will be bringing mana elixirs >_>

See, now we question what you're wearing that allows so much damage mitigation on normal :\

I think you probably have higher mitigation than me, but you're also 40 levels or so higher so physical absorb doesn't have quite the same impact.

I can't check exact numbers, still going strong (r35 now), but I know I have around 30 physical absorb, 20% physical mit, 40-45% slashing mit, and 20-30% crushing and piercing, and about +27/27 str and end. With ether theft I can keep shield up permanently for an additional 20+ absorb, and use regen for a full heal for 17 mana on a coalesced mob. For reference, I get back 12-15 mana ever 5 or 6 hits.
