just did a 132 lvl gridnfest at Easy dificulty now thats hardcore grinding, i've could've continue but i got bored and i leveled up 2 levels in 1 grindfest

QUOTE(Sayo Aisaka @ Aug 22 2009, 21:31) *

Posts like this are starting to annoy me. I'm not picking on Hayate23 specifically (his post just happened to be on this page), nor am I referring to those such as Hito who've paid millions of credits for the privilege, but I really think something's wrong with the system if certain players can get unlimited items, EXP or whatever just by wearing the right bits of armour. I'm sure this suggestion will be hugely unpopular, but maybe the difficulty level should increase every 20 rounds or so?

QUOTE(DemonEyesBob @ Aug 22 2009, 21:46) *

As annoyed as I am by that post I'm gonna have to disagree. Things like that can only be done on cake/easy (I think) and so the amount of exp earned is still tiny and the items found not that good. I have decent armor and I can't get past 20 on grindfest without really good items, so I'd prefer if it didn't get any harder. In fact, I'd prefer if the old grindfest was still doable.

I wouldn't call this EXP tiny, and the items didn't look too bad either...

For reference, I just did a "cakefest" with some Lesser items. Round reached: 12. EXP gain: 202. Credit gain: About zero, since I had to heal myself first. Items: Nothing worth mentioning.

I think I have to agree with Sayo Aisaka. With my plate armor I'm invincible on cake, Just a hair under invincible
on easy and I can go nearly a hundred grind rounds on normal. I had put off a few arena battles for fear of losing, (and losing credits), but the other day I just waltzed through them without even needing to use items. Grinding on cake has netted me so many items that I been thinking of liquidating some for profit; after all, I can always get more with zero risk (just a little boredom). A full suit of plate armor is practically a license to print EXP, creds and items, albeit slowly. I've been buying nice pieces of clothe armor whenever I can to see if the higher evade is equitable with plate armor's high absorb/mitigate. Good clothe armor is pricey so this might not be a good solution either. I think a low level impoverished player should be able to keep up by increasing proficiencies but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I just managed to get to Round 39 of Cakefest and I managed to find an "Average Bronze Longsword", too bad it wasn't a Shortsword (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It would actually help if we could scale up with the lower level players in terms of proficiencies.

Like they start out on level 0 with 0 proficiency in one handed, while i start out on level 79 with 0 in one handed =/

thats what's contributing to the whole unfair balance thing. Luckily i can safely say most of the refrigerators on the forums will fail most arenas, so i like that thought <3

I'm actually building up two sets, one for cake grinding for items and possibly equipment as well as proficiencies in magic, and the other for arenas and hourlies. My proficiencies are pretty much caught up at the moment, not exactly at my level but the gain is slowing down :/ so I'm not too afraid to make two sets, though once the proficiencies are fully added I probably won't need the extra one (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It's all about the heavy armor. I couldn't not crack round 12 or so on cakefest until I gave up the mage route and got some heavy armor (Spent a bunch of credits for that).

Also all my proficiencies were at 0 at level 42, and my INT+WIS were 14 points higher then my other ones. Now look.

(IMG:[i25.tinypic.com] http://i25.tinypic.com/14d1rt0.jpg)

I was still using majiku for hourlies and arena but now I've realised that that's a waste of time as well.

I don't think weapon proficiency is really the issue here. Even if I could kill every monster with a single blow, that still wouldn't allow me to take zero net damage (allowing for Second Winds) once I reached levels with more than n monsters (where n is a number I really can't be bothered to work out).

I was going add more about armo(u)r proficiency, but nick321 just answered that one.

My stats, for comparison. I thought I was doing pretty well with that +15... (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Dunno what he answered about armor prof for you..since other than weapon procs equipment proficiency isn't working. All the higher stats show is that heavy armor gets more str and end than lighter armors get in dex and agi. Here's mine (with red, orange, and green auras). Subtract the aura bonuses from str and end and the rest is from one piece of heavy armor...while the dex/agi bonuses are from my 2 weps, and the other 4 slots...

The question was something along the lines of "if I started with heavy armour now (with zero proficiency) would it still allow me infinite Grindfests?" and the answer would appear to be "yes". But if, as you say, the armour proficiency doesn't do anything yet, there's a good chance that'll change when it does do something, which will probably happen at the exact point when I manage to acquire some...

Ah, well, if you can get some cheap gear that is relatively good, even at 48 it'll have an effect. Cmal grinded from 40-50 in less than a week with heavy, and is still able to get by fairly easily, so around our levels full heavy is still relatively good.

All the people who say they can get to level 100+ on cake are all under level 50. I don't see many people over 50 who are doing 100+ rounds, even with full plate armor. Monster attacks and skills just start hitting much harder than the 20ish absorb can handle. Armor absorption doesn't scale - the level 100+ plate armors don't give tons of absorb.

We'll see different kind of posts as people reach higher levels, and perhaps new strats other than "wear all plate armor".

I've actually already made that observation and posted it somewhere. I think. Maybe I started the post but ended up not making it?

In any case, armor is still in the balancing stage. Higher level stuff will likely get scaled up in stats because there won't be any point wearing them if you're basically taking the same damage without it. The penalty for wearing stuff way over your level will probably be shifted to match, as well.

I manage to get to 158 at cake. but I only used 4 lesser mana pots so I should be able to go higher.
