Pronounced: än-ˈtänd(-rə)
"Entendre" is a French word, so the term translates as "double meaning." It refers to a phrase that has a normal innocent meaning but also another implicit one, usually sexual.
yeah Entendre would literally mean "to hear". I know that since it's my native language. So yeah I just wanted to know if it was like in my own native language. Like so many other words that are being destroyed by the pronunciation of English speakers.

How could you not know what a sperm whale is!?
Simple, I've known the sperm whale as a "cachalot" in French...doesn't really sound like sperm whale to me.

How could you not know what a double entendre is?
Because in French this wouldn't make sense.
