As for the "Elemental mods", The single target ones could for example, replace the original ones (like fireball), pretty much do the same damage like normal fireball but increases when the proc effect is present.

Either that or a separate skill, which will do less damage than a fireball initially, but has a higher chance to proc the effect, and does more damage if the proc is present.

As for the AOE versions, i was aiming towards no base damage unless the proc effect is present and ONLY target the ones with the proc effect. I was aiming for 2 / 2,5 x the damage of inferno (aoe counterpart)

ADD: (because i feel these could help as well)

Virulent strike, comatose hit, Joint beat and Concussive Blow
Simple melee attack at the cost of slightly more mp than the base cost of poison, sleep, slow and weaken that will proc the associated effect.

These should go under Skills instead of Magic.

This is taken rather obviously from other sources, but, how about "Character Perks", or something of the ilk? Like in Fallout, where you can be a crack shot with ranged weapons but have a higher miss rate on melee attacks. You get one perk to start out with and then another for every other, or every third rank up, whichever is of your choosing. But I was thinking of basic things, like:

Nimble - Gives you 5 extra DEX and AGI points, but reduces STR and END by 5 each.

Double Strike - 25% chance of an additional hit, Attack Hit Chance reduced to 75%.

Molten Core - Fire Magic Proficiency upped by 10%, Cold Rating reduced by 10%.

Just as examples. Simple trade-offs like that. I thought of it when I was fighting a Mind Raper and was like, "In all reality, personally, I wouldn't be affected by Toddler Guro, in fact, I'd be quite amused by it." Maybe make Toddler Guro a dark type magic and:

Twisted Mind - Dark Rating up 50%, Holy Proficiency reduced 25%.

Again, just an idea I'm sure would be incredibly difficult to input, but it would make characters more personal, of course, like that's necessary.

A simple interface suggestion:
A thin line between each round of battle would make the log easier to read.

Will there be abilities that relate to the main site, as there were in the old ability trees? Getting something like quick browse made things interesting, since it wasn't just a self-contained battle system.

It looks like you might be migrating those over to hath, but i think it's a good feature to have in the battle minigame.

I dunno if it's planned, but the ability to sell items/trade them to other players would be nice since I have no use for and unlikely will ever have use for the 25% bonus to lightning scroll thing.

I imagine that at some point after HV leaves beta we'll get an exchange, where items can go on the market to be bought and sold, with some cut taken off the top as a commission.

I'd be shocked if we got it soon though. I'd also be shocked if Tenboro didn't take the chance to drain more credits from the system eventually though. :-)

I'd think they'd be helpful for fighting some of the 'boss' types; hedgehog, cow, manthra. I'm pretty sure they are all 3 weak to lightning.

Sure, except for me not having any lightning spells. I suppose defensively, I think rating works defensively. Still, can't plan ahead, limited item slots, I'd rather something that works against any monster/boss like a healing potion.

I get the feeling it'll end up being a system that suffers from Final Fantasy syndrome.

"Fuck me Elixirs are awesome!"
"Wait a minute, it costs 5000 Gil to buy one but if I sell one I only get 1?"
*doesn't sell*

Except you won't be able to *buy* elixirs. Then again, you weren't in most Final Fantasy games either.

But a Last Elixir, which btw is a pretty damn rare drop, should sell for about 2-4k credits, depending on if I settle for 10% or 20% of item value as the base sell price (it's "worth" 20'000 C).

Sheesh. That's a lot of credits.

Are you going to allow a barter system by any chance? Usefulness: I'm a high-HP magic-based fighter with almost no mana-replenishing items (monsters just don't feel like dropping the things I want >_>); I'd totally be willing to trade a Superior Health Draught for several Lesser Mana Draughts. Or something like that. Oh! Item auctions!

Don't actually do that; Item auctions I mean. Wait! Item auctions with items as the cost! Auction+Trading in one!
-----
Offer: 1 Superior Health Draught.
Cost: 3 Lesser Mana Draughts or 1 Superior Mana Draught or 5,000C. Or some combination of the three. Maybe, 2 Lesser Mana Draughts and 2,000C or something.
-----
Or something like that.

You've probably already thought of this, or thought of and dismissed it, and probably thought of doing it in a much better manner. But I haven't slept in a while and I'm rambling but it actually looks like a somewhat good idea right now, though I wouldn't expect it to be implemented for some time if you were gonna do it.

Also, and completely unrelated, but you never answered my question about 'accessories'; items that aren't 'used' in battle, but instead simply supply an affect (ie. Haste, Shield, gives your attack a chance of causing poison, etc.). I guess this could simply be implemented through the weapons/armor system, but I don't know what your plans are for those (ie. will some weapons cause elemental damage, or cause poision/frozen limbs etc., or maybe... DRAIN MP OR HP OR BOTH!).

(IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

edit: COMPLETELY unrelated: I don't suppose you could change it so poison damage doesn't wake sleeping enemies by any chance (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I still haven't decided on any particular form of player-to-player trading, and while a barter system would be "different" it would be fairly complex to code (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), and I'm not really sure how to let people set what they'd want for an item. Probably if I went down that road I would need to set a limitation that you could only barter items and equipment for consumables and credits, due to the complexity of the equipment system, which of course no one but me knows anything about at all. Let's just say there won't be 18480 people walking around with the exactly identical "Falcon's Blade" sword or whatever.

Most likely items in your inventory won't be able to provide any special effects, and I'm not too sure about elemental weapons (mostly because all mobs have an average elemental resistance above 0, so they'd be weaker on average than non-elemental weapons anyway). But yes there will be "accessories" and yes equipment will be able to supply special effects.

What do you mean by 'all mobs have... above 0...'?

Does this mean we're gonna have to buy accessory slots/ability-point-slots too? XD

I can't wait for the double-credit or double-exp accessory, which, with your type of balancing, will probably also decrease defense by 1/2 or something to make up for it xD.

Can't wait for this stuff to really get underway.

Awwwww.

I don't suppose you have a Final Fantasy 'Doom' style spell by any chance? 5 turns and the target dies (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I also don't suppose, way, way, way down the line, that there will be some form of co-op battles? I'd love to team up with Panda or Sonic in a battle (they can smash, I can heal (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)).

That if you summed all their elemental ratings the sum would be above zero, and one is always 100. I always hated elemental weapons, since you'd inevitably encounter lots of mobs that were healed by it.

Wasn't planning it, but if you do, it's your fault for saying that right now. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

More like, the balancing would make you start the battle dead.

Not with the current system, but the problems I'd have to solve for a PvP mode are mostly identical to the ones I'd have to solve for a Co-Op mode, so it's not impossible.

The point would be to cast it (and sleep) on the most powerful opponent at the beginning of a battle, and then turn to deal with the other monsters.

Oh, you could also have a Mega Doom (AoE) attack to take care of the that mob problem (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (I still remember Mega Death from some boss fight in FFX. Cheapest. Move. Ever.)

Like how to have a fair fight between a level 82 EbilPanda and a level 15 newb lol? Well, good to know there's a possibility sometime down the line. After weapons/armor, accessories, item shop, item-bartering, tweaks, tweaks, more tweaks, and all the testing that comes with the previously mentioned stuff. LoL.

3.1 RandomPeon uses Flee.

2.3 Limit Break hits EbilPanda for 1 unspecified damage.

My mouse decided to croak, and I can't tab to anything other than the Battle, Character and Bazaar buttons.

Which makes me sad because my tablet isn't getting here for a couple days.

Any chance we could get something that would allow tabbing, just in case?
