Without hiding the power too you're always going to have people who give others karma in hopes of getting a return hit who has a lot of power. Granted it might not work as well with the existing members since we already know the power users but as the community continues to grow it might work out.

A radical idea. How about simply hiding the Karma numbers?

We used to do this.
I don't know why we stopped.

What about just putting a K+ and K- button off to the side but making overall karma and power only visible to the user in their dashboard or something? Then nobody cares, nobody is the wiser and just maybe people will start giving out karma with it's intended purpose in mind.

That would address none of the concerns the site administration seems to have had with karma use lately, I don't think. People like Ravioli would still get NK bombed. People would still trade PK hits because most are only interested in their own, not everyone else's.

The main thing that would probably come from doing this though is that the Free Karma Shots thread would just be updated with people posting their current karma levels or we'll just end up with another Spamhaus thread listing. And considering karma has become a major divider lately another thread or two dedicated to it might cause more harm than good.

A fine line we walk here.

That thread should be "nuked", anyway.

I don't really think hiding the numbers will solve anything, even if there was anything to solve.

People who end up being NK bombed usually deserves it, for excessive spamming or being a dumbass. The only real problem I was trying to fix was excessive imbuing between the same people, be it negative or positive. As far as that goes, I believe it worked.

Why can't I imbue Ravioli with Neg K anymore?

Is Hyruka Hyura Ravtard in disguise?

When will the GP cost in the rate in the galleries decrease?

I think you are mistaken on exactly what is being discussed here. I'd venture a guess a good bit of us have it trained but that was never the concern. The main concern is essentially what the karma system has become as well as it's presence now in the forums. The sheer amount of threads created for getting free karma, get me to the next level as well as just how often it's mentioned in many other threads is the problem. Also the polarizing effect it's had lately on the members.

And it's best to not just assume that because someone wants to change the karma system or doesn't necessarily agree with the way it is that they are karma haters nor are they karma haters if they don't post in every thread begging for karma. I like getting karma but I want it because someone gives it to me not because of obligation or I posted in a certain thread. Simply put, if you aren't a karma whore that does not automatically make you a karma hater.

Because I try to constructively discuss the system as opposed to screaming at the top of my lungs how much karma exhaustion sucks? Every decision Tenboro makes on this site is likely always going to come with some kind of push back from the members, but the way to really accomplish anything is to try to act rational as opposed to throw fits in a bunch of threads and ask such questions like "is it even worth it anymore" when this is but one minor facet that makes up this site.

I have. So?
I did most of that training before the system completely fell apart.

I'm not a karma hater. If the system was working how it was intended, I would have no problem with it.
I hate undeserved karma, karma whoring (rep farming), and the way the system works at the current time.

I hate seeing this crap:
2009-04-01 01:19 +6 Zero Hour - for posting in free karma

How does that make sense? "Hey guys, I didn't do anything but can you give me something to boost my reputation?"

Really, what I hate most of all is drama, and when a stupid thing like a broken rep system is causing drama, that causes me to hate the broken rep system.

Throwing fits? Kind of like the way we hear you throw fits about how much you hate your job and the way you complain and make fun of people who are calling you because they need your assistance? That makes everyone's ears bleed, too.

I've been a karma whore since the very beginning of the karma system. And if people were so against that free karma shot thread then they should've spoken up from the beginning instead of ragging about it now.

And I've said elsewhere that I'm against the practice of donating stars to people because I don't really see a need for it anymore. At one time it was useful when not a lot of members here had the means to donate, but now it's not fair that some of us have put out a lot of money to get those stars and others get them for free. I'd rather we just got an aura slot or some skills or something else as a thank you for donating.

But just because I don't like it, I don't go around petitioning all over the place to do away with it and why? Because I know it makes people happy. And why try to take away something from someone if it makes them happy, even if it is only on the internet?

If people are happy, there are always those who wish to take it away. It's just how stuff works.

You have imbued Kitsune Nagato with 1033.6 points of positive karma.

Your Karma Influence Power has been drained, and is now 1019.

lol! It's like reading a billboard.
