Alright, here's the story: I've recently downloaded a new browser and wound up gotten a lot of shit that I didn't want with it. So I uninstalled said programs and went back to Chrome. And now a ad-based website keeps opening in a new tab if I click on the wrong area of a given webpage. I'm also getting ads that I've never gotten before on g.e-hentai. Right now, I'm running Malwarebytes Antimalware and it's showing an growing list of "potentially unwanted programs," which I plan on removing when the scan is finished. So besides the obvious lesson of "never download mysterious files from the web" exactly hpw can I solve this problem?

Okay.

1. Run Piriform ccleaner to get rid of everything in your cache. It's free and it works.

2. Get the ads be gone hath perk.

3. Use Firefox. Chrome sucks.

4. Don't download mysterious files from the internet.

5. Profit.

What was the browser you installed?

CCleaner doesn't help, even with the addon expansion.

Hijacksthis is the best analyzer, Malwarebytes is just a generic scanner and doesn't pickup everything.

Hath perk if you're a contributor to the site and can earn yourself credits/hath. Adblock if you don't have the time or care enough to do these things.

Best thing to do: use firefox instead of chrome and get extensions for it. I am currently running 7 layers of active and passive control and protection on my browser, every single line of code is analyzed before allowed through.

Why don't you offload the workload and use 7 web proxies instead?

I'd say that browsing with common sense combined with good use of extensions (regardless of browser) would be enough to stop any larger problems. I'd still recommend doing virus scans every while, though.

The best solution is to use a hosts file. I never use ad blocking software and don't need to. Google "Someone who cares"+"hosts" and you'll get a hosts file and explanation on how to put one in.

Chrome really isn't the problem here, and it's pretty damn retarded to suggest "Use Firefox" as a solution. That was bad advice back in 2007 when it suggested over IE, and it's especially poor advice in 2015 when [www.extremetech.com] Chrome is objectively the more secure of the two browsers(by a long shot). Firefox has never, at any point in time, been the most secure browser. Literally. Ever.

Note: I use Opera 12.15 and have no dog in this fight. I'm not a fan of either Chrome or Firefox.

All these suggestions are great but it does sound like you have adware/malware on your pc. Nothing short of removing them via what youre already doing and possibly a bit more (id advise going to a malware removal forum for this) will fix your problem; everything else is just throwing a cover over it as its still there even if you cant see it.

Depends on the nature of the ads. If it's web-based ads that popup, you might consider uninstalling and reinstalling ALL your web browsers. If its a popup, it is likely a program, look up its instance and see if you can locate where it is and delete it. Good Luck.

What program did you last install? Have you ever clicked 'Download now' or 'Download this' and it's packed as an .exe?

Those toolbars and packed .exe are usually the culprit of your ads-infested browser. You will need to clean using specialized program.

Sounds like some sort of malware or adware is installed in your computer. I would suggest you to:

1) Get [www.fosshub.com] SpyBot Search&Destroy, it is free:[www.fosshub.com] http://www.fosshub.com/Spybot-Search-and-D...ToStartDownload

1a) Update the database
1b) Scan the system
1c) Fix the results
1d) Immunise

2) [Optional(ish)] Get [www.malwarebytes.org] Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, also free: [www.malwarebytes.org] https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

2a) Make sure the database is updated
2b) Scan the system
2c) Clean/Fix if anything else is found (i.e. not caught by SpyBot)

3) Go to your browser extension/add-ons site and download:

3a) AdBlockPlus: This should block most ads (legitimate ones and also the malware kind) and should make your browsing much more comfortable
3b) Web of Trust (WOT): This one gives you a vague idea of what kind of site you are visiting, it's extra useful if you don't want to think too much when visiting a site -- it will warn you when you are visiting suspicious sites (NOTE: since it's community based, it's not 100% accurate but, it is enough to give you the idea of the risk you are exposing when visiting certain sites -- you are still free to go to the warned sites -- again, it's all about common sense)

4) [Optional] Go do an online virus computer scan, I personally use [www.eset.com] ESET NOD32 online scanner: [www.eset.com] http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

4a) Scan and have a peace of mind, because I do doubt that this malware case would escalate into a virus/trojan case -- saying that, I would still do it even if I labelled as optional...

At least, that is what I would do and my opinion of what you should do for now.

The post above me is very comprehensive and the ideal procedure for eliminating in most cases every redirect virus that you can acquire; however, i will add that sometimes if you're using chrome it's as simple as visiting the extension page under the dropdown menu 'more tools' and disabling anything that looks suspicious as well as visiting the control panel and finding the corresponding application that you may have recently downloaded unknowningly. Sometimes these will also lie dormant in your program files folder and can be removed by standard means once found.

If there is an adware or something of a kind that isn't getting deleted, remember you can go to safe mode and run your adware/virus scanners. In safe mode, for windows, is run with most minimum processes to just make it work. So no random programs or adware will be automatically executed. I had a problem few years ago with page redirecting and spyware and safe mode boot and scan worked wonders for me.

I also have the ads be gone perk so I can retain my conscience.

Andie-chan got it right. by the way since we are in this topic, while using a adblocking addon, there's one site I go that detect it and show a horrible javascript prompt about this. I'm using noscipt, but allowed javascript for that page or else wouldn't be able to download stuff. Is there a way to find and block this specific element?
