I accidentally messed up my normal account's home directory, and it can't log in anymore. I need another administer to change it back.

You ever think you should just be happy with your current OS, rather then fuck up your computer to a point where it's not even usable anymore?

So... do you see the point of using Windows sometimes? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Depending on *how* you "fucked it up" -- you could always just boot in with a Linux live CD/DVD and edit it from the GUI.

Or log in as root using your uber password.

I'm assuming of course (/hoping) you weren't running as ROOT 24/7...

No, at least not until I've heard exactly what the problem is.

Vista service pack 1. Hate it though, it makes my laptop too slow.

Two questions:
Firstly -- what security software do you use? Those tend to bog down your system MUCH worse than the OS.
Secondly -- what are your laptops specs? Many laptop manufacturers put Vista on machines that just are too dang slow for it.

I currently dual boot Windows XP, mostly for games and graphics, and Ubuntu 8.10, for when I actually need to get some work done xD. And yes, for those of you keeping up, the current version of Ubuntu is 9.04. I need to update. Also, since the only game I seem to be playing at all recently is Starcraft, which actually runs acceptably on Ubuntu, I only boot up XP to use Photoshop xD.

I'm testing Windows 7 RC on another system, and man its pretty nice. I like it much better than Vista (by leaps and bounds in fact) when Vista came out as RC1, it is better than Vista SP1 and at least as good, if not better than XP in most params... As far as I can tell anyways. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
