Because Dell (other companies have done this as well but I'll keep to the example) wanted to re-tout old hardware with a new OS to make a few extra quick bucks at the expense of usability. It happened when XP came out, and will probably continue to happen in the future. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

In the mean time, the OS gets the blame, not the hardware manufacturer.

7 is still in beta and there doesn't appear to be an exact date on release. I personally don't blindly jump into a new release. Go for Ultimate and don't worry too much about 7 until it has been out for a while and has a Service Pack on it.

Aye, aye! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Also, what's the deal with this Vista Red Ultimate crap anyway? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

So they are the same as the normal Ultimate version?

Damn, I could have gotten one for $64.95 if I had known about it a couple of months ago before I graduated.

Oh, wait! I'm still eligible for the student price for Vista Red Ultimate. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

So, I just need a confirmation that it is the same as the regular Vista Ultimate before I buy it.

It is essentially the same. What is different is that it comes with "(PRODUCT)RED wallpapers, gadgets, a unique screensaver and DreamScene."

Might as well chime in here.

Personally, I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit, a Windows XP Tablet 32 bit, a Windows XP Pro 32 bit, a Linux (tri-boot, three different distros right now), a BSD (dual-boot, Free and Open), a "who the hell knows" that I format an average of twice a week, two Windows Server 2003 32 bit, another Linux (Fedora), yet another Linux (Debian right now), and one more Linux (Ubuntu).

Throw in a Fedora box at work too.

Oh, and a mac laptop I haven't turned on in....6 months? Think it is running OSX.

This [en.wikipedia.org] new OS being developed by some dude in Russia sounds like a neat idea. Hopefully it's not just a pipe-dream.

I'm using 64 bit Windows Vista Home Premium w/ SP1 on my new laptop.

I would downgrade to XP but Vista seems to be pretty stable on this system.
