Why not save a few hundred dollars, and use a free OS?

Mostly I'm using it for gaming, I would use something else as I don't really like Windows to begin with but for work I need to be familer with the most common OS and the world uses Windows. I have found a XP for £50 still a rip off but not too bad.

Get a copy of the OS disk, and use a cracked key? I set up server 2003 this way once, and even when I had a legal windows copy, autoupdate was off. I had mcafee installed with a subscription I never renewed after the 90 day trial, and still never got any viruses.

I bought Win7 64-bit Home Premium some months ago together with a brand new PC.
But I recieved my MSDN account some days ago which gives me access to the Professional Version, means that I'll update my OS soon (when I can find some spare time lol)

... and just about anything else.
Vista is like the ugly incest child of xp and w7, and in every feature of it, something is flawed.

Ubuntu 10.04. It may have problems (Since mid July, I've had to manually start Nautilus (or whatever) because the window controls will not appear until I change my graphical settings), but it's a lot more user friendly than windows, and generally better. For example, you can ACTUALLY KILL a non-responding program (like Zombie firefox.bin), and things don't crash every 5 seconds.

Also, users of Mac OSX should replace that hunk of crap with a REEL Linux Kernel Based OS.

If that's an example of real improvement, Ubuntu still has a long way to go.

And start having problems like the one quoted above? That would be dumb...
