I'm looking at you, monstrously large forum-participation-based EXP bonus.

Then again, that would really mess up the people who are so far ahead levels-wise that even their passive participation in the forums is enough to keep anyone from catching up... so it seems pretty unlikely.

Technically no one can be "caught up" since there is nothing to catch. I have a shitload of bonuses and I'm still not at level 500.

This seems like a perfect example of a perverse incentive. The experience incentive urges people who don't want to post to make 10 posts each month. This incentive doesn't consider post quality, and since a low quality post on a spam thread is easier to make than a well-considered post that adds value to a discussion, the experience bonus ultimately encourages users to flood your forum with low-quality posts.

People who already participate in other forum conversations don't need to do anything to get the maximum bonus, so this incentive has no effect on their behavior. The bonus only changes the behavior of people who would not use the forums without the bonus. It seems what you really want are higher quality posts driven by increased user engagement, but that behavior is not rewarded or encouraged by the system in place today.

As someone who has at times engaged in "spammy behavior," I can tell you that I was motivated entirely by the exp bonus with a little bit of "bad wiki information" mixed in.

me too, i just limited it to seeing exp drop on DoD
otherwise there is not much reason to post on forum if you play HV only and do not go in other sections
maybe like 1-2 posts a month (regular posters/spammers exluded)

Oh Lord... Bad people have more than 1 account... Ok. So why not making a move on them?

Method 1: SQL Moogle Activity Check and Kill (S.M.A.C.K.)
- Stop GarbageCollection on MoogleMails for an undisclosed time window. Run a silent SQL over all users in Hentaiverse what they attached plus COD. So you get the main accouts, because mains are the takers, twinks are the givers. Seize / delay suspicious MoogleMails. Inform sender of being suspicious (mostly the account will not do anything for a time).

Method 2: Personal Reaction Ivoked on Serious Measures (P.R.I.S.M.)
- Just state somewhere that you already have a number of multi accounts spotted and plan to swing the mighty Ban Hammer. All you can do now is to DELETE that account by sending a message to the Admin, stating main account and twink accounts to avoid the main being banned also.

Method 3: Script Language Activation Protection (S.L.A.P.)
After being SMACK-ed or PRISM-ed, the account is moved in a user group, which can only play Hentaiverse in plain HTML (slap.css) without script languages

(Optional) Method 4: Suspicious Questioning Uniformed In Riddlemaster Trials (S.Q.U.I.R.T.)
The Riddlemaster now also asks for a monster the account is training. Multiple choices. Failing costs Stamina and the Monster asked for looses all morale and loot and refuses to take in part of battles for 7 days. No XP granted also on this monster. Here you can build in information gathered by S.M.A.C.K.

(Optinal) Method 5: Permitting Accouts to Yield Multiple Entities (P.A.Y.M.E.)
Allowing more than -1- playing entity on an account (some log-in screen perhaps after HV sign in?) after reaching Gold Star Level. 1 Star equals 1 entity. Inventory is shared, slots for items 1k per entity.


Oh, and that SPAM problem... Limit posts per day to KARMA (!) exept in an auction post... and monitor Karma logs *snicker*
