I used to have a bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder in the backyard several years ago and there was one little hummingbird I'd made friends with and it used to come and drink from the hose spray every so often so I've experienced that before. But my cat used to eat all the sparrows and the bird seed attracted mice (which she would bring to me and dump in my bed - I have lots of mice and rat horror stories, btw) so I stopped doing the bird stuff.

But yeah, it's special when a hummingbird trusts you enough to get really close to you. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
She's doing OK. She wakes me up so early yowling and meowing until I get up and feed her. She's been throwing up a bit, though. I gave her roast chicken today as a special treat.

This is noble. You might prefer it if people were to detest your guts, but this warmed me on the inside.

I never get to see a wide variety of birds in the wild. Here in leafy rural England, it's just badgers, foxes and rabbits. And the occasional deer.

In any case, I no longer wish to be involved in tag grouping at all, and I'd rather stay away from Vigilante activities, too (because the people in charge are idiots, but you already knew that).

the bird seed attracted mice

Have you tried the bird feeders that keep squirrels, mice, and rats out by using a slippery protective top cover? It's fun watching squirrels trying to get into my hummingbird feeder and repeatedly slipping and falling to the ground.

It wasn't that the mice were getting in the bird feeder, but they were in the plants below eating the dropped seeds that the birds would scatter around. I knew we had mice out there in backyard land but I never knew there were rats around here until my cat would bring them to me. But anyway, they're not around anymore because their main food source is gone.

And the mice and other rodents that my cat would bring to me were fat, healthy specimens, too. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
