Deathy has had the ability, but lacked the effort. I'm sure that's really all there is to it.
Some do their best to be perfect, but Deathy saves his talent only for times where he really wants to impress.
I think he got the English language down, and then realized he didn't care to act like a grown up, once he'd reached that point.

ah, well, seeing as I only really use spirit for ring of blood deals in conjunction with bubble gum (i thought those comments were jokes, but it actually works quite well), it doesn't seem to necessary, although being able to one shot bosses does sound attractive.....
