Did anyone ever really want karma in the first place, or is it just one of those unnecessary, innocuous positive reinforcement things that means absolutely nothing to anyone, but it's pushed and pushed upon the denizens of whatever ecosystem it thrives in until it's basically retrofitted into the behavior of a constituency's necessities?

Dunno what it was originally meant as, seeing as I wasn't around back then, but the fact that everyone and their grandmother who comes here for underage bondage yaoi have a whopping majority of positive nowadays would place the current situation in the latter category. But, seriously, and I don't know why I'm echoing this statement again, I fucking hate it when I get positive karma for no real reason other than people think they're being "nice".

Because, really, and this is a guess, it's a downplay of an ancient people's beliefs in a controlled, adjusted universe. Positive reinforcement isn't there to be tossed around like candy during a parade. It exists to reinforce positive things, hence, why it's called what it is. Saying that someone simply existing is a good thing is ludicrous unto itself, just as is the practice of spewing enmity just because you disagree that whatever it is should be there. Both sides of the coin are undoubtedly selfish, and it's more obvious one than the other.

The negative side is selfish because they want whatever is pestering them to go away.

The positive side is selfish because they want whomever they are imbuing to think highly of them.

If I could, I'd do like Tenboro and just drop that loathsome bar and its bastardized tranquility from my silicon conscience and block all incoming positive karma. But, as that is impossible, there's no use in crying about it.

And why I'd choose positive over negative? Well, that's because, logically, an average human does many more wrong or amoral things in their life than good, wholesome activities. Ergo, if there is one end of the stick that is more suited toward someone as pessimistic and wantonly obliged to fury, discord and cruel intentions, it'd most likely be the shit end.
