I'd go on about how terrible it is that Tomoko's antics are commonplace but still derided by an uptight society, but perhaps humour and warmth (and repeated pummeling of certain images into the collective consciousness) will eventually lead to a time where she can be understood, accepted, and maybe... even popular. she will never be loved

Emerging Idol gets an accidental stinkpalm from a Radio Station staffer on the evening of her broadcast debut, and gets a bad case of THE SQUITS. Aforementioned Staffer JUST HAPPENS to have a near-identical voice to our upcoming idol, and has to stand in for "the talent" while she has a bad time on the bog. It just so happens that this aural doppelganger also has a burgeoning career as a stand-up comedian, and wins a dedicated, but unknowing audience for the show through her talent for dirty jokes.

One of the best gender-swap stories of all time, predating even Ranma. Seems to have little to do with the animated adpations by A-1; your mileage may vary. The Madhouse OVAs still stand the test of time.
