I had no idea. The last time I really paid attention to ranks, I was still so low level that they went up automatically. After that, I’ve sometimes looked at the "Display Title" part of my settings and thought, "I’m sure the 'level default' will be okay for a casual player like me."

Are there no penalties, or undesired side effects like experience bonuses? Only a damage bonus and an evade bonus?

No undesired effects, its just whats listed on the tin

You may argue evade isnt desirable for 1h, but that can be dealt with and its a free dd1, it's always worth having

They didn't went up automatically, there's no way it can do that (nor any script afaik does that). You just don't remember you changed them.

And there are no penalties. The titles' settings is simply a way to re-balance a little the difficulty increase in higher levels and make possible some kind of progression even to players that are low in other resources.

As a player gains EXP and increase in levels, their character will increase in rank. Their rank will go up automatically each time their level reaches a multiple of 10, until they reach level 90. Each subsequent rank must be unlocked by completing a particular challenge and these unlockable ranks have special benefits attached. These subsequent ranks also have to be manually selected.

I've gotten the same for cloth. I know the chances of getting what you want are real slim. Yet I can't bring myself to shrine for something else. I'm conflicted if I should upgrade those non matching heimdalls or try to get legendary radiants. The thought of bidwars with other holy users is so disheartening.

Legendary radiants will perform better for you, if you're looking for performance in arenas - if you want to branch out into IW or fest, my advice these days would be to switch element (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Getting what you want is pretty slim, but the chances of getting any good piece isn't that bad, so I'm a little disappointed with how long my dry run has been.
